Look up Hister Beetle

can say that it's not that or the asian lady beetle, but also can't say what it is other than likely harmless.

there's so many beetles and while they may chew on plants here or there they're not often a problem as they are more often feeding on detritus, under bark on dead trees, etc. the major pests are the tree borers which can do a lot of damage, but realistically you do need your tree cleanup crews too. we can't have a system which doesn't recycle nutrients and energy from the sun or we'd be buried under it all...

in the garden here all beetles are usually left alone until i see them destroying a plant i care about enough to defend. Japanese beetles are the only ones i hand pick off. the fireflies do eat a lot of plants, but i like them so i leave them alone. the thousands of others are free to do what they need to do.
