Darn, it happened ...

The temperature was 99°f again, yesterday. There was some 16mph wind gusts.

That's probably why it happened. I opened windows this morning to the smell of wood smoke. My first thought was that a neighbor had left a barbecue smoldering all night. No, it's a nearby wildfire.

Small but not yet contained. Maybe, if we don't have too much wind today, the firefighters can keep it close to 100 acres. Two structures have burned and that may be how the fire started but it moved on to the trees.

Things still smell smoky but the haze has blown away.

69º overnight low, that must be about the warmest so far this year

@digitS' , usually I'm telling people to stay dry... but I hope you get some rain to knock down those fires. Stay safe, my friend.

if i lived out west i'd probably end up living underground. the idea of wild fires is terrifying, the way the wind can blow those embers so far and the fire itself moving so fast...

I lived in San Diego for 13 years, fortunately not in an area at high risk for fire. There were days, though, when there was a fire nearby & the wind blew the wrong way, that you could smell the smoke - and sometimes see ash falling. There was a talking head on one of the local stations that used to make me really angry... because when conditions were right for brush fires, she would say "... and fire officials are concerned about the threat of arson". It was like an alarm bell for firebugs - within hours, there would be several smoke plumes in the hills. :somad Made me want to reach through the TV screen...:smack

I no longer live where wildfires could threaten my home. I hope! Lots of watered lawns around this neighborhood.

Once, my home was surrounded by forest. My lawn and garden was the only irrigated ground for 100's of yards, even miles in one direction. No close fires while I lived there.

My problem some years is the respiratory and eye stress I experience with days and days of smoke. It's a problem I share with many others. Some folks, dare not venture outdoors.

Humidity was 9% yesterday afternoon ..! I don’t know if I have experienced humidity here like that.

There was 41°f difference between yesterday's low and the afternoon high. 55° to 96°

I guess that I now live in a mountain desert ...

elevation can make a lot of difference too @digitS' ...

beautiful weather today and yesterday was mixed, some rain and then nice the rest of the day for a big family gathering. the most popular topic with everyone was worms and worm keeping. lol recently one uncle moved to be close to another so we had to check out his new place and his large garden. so of course we talked quite a bit about that sort of thing too. he's just getting going (i'm not sure of his age but he's likely in his 70s). never too old to learn. :)

It is hard to sleep because it is so hot and then I saw on Facebook DD posting about so many days until PUMPKIN things happen. It showed leaves falling, and FEAR came over me. lol I swore to DS last winter I would never complain about summer this year. I go around saying IT'S HOT, IT'S HOT, but I am careful about saying can't wait until it cools off. i DREAD so much winter and the firewood and the ice and the firewood, and carrying in the firewood, ashes, and firewood. lol

it has been cloudy and warm today so tolerable to me as it is much better than being out in the blasting sun. temperatures are going up later this week. i was so enjoying this break from the oven.

maybe get some rains the next few days, i watered the other day so we should be ok for a bit yet, but nice to have Momma Nature Unbottled Water Co do the supply and distribution. :)
