The OP's salad looks delicious to me. I'm surprised no one recognized the hard-boiled eggs as the major protein source in that meal.

Personally I can taste the similarity between hard-boiled eggs and avacados. Very true that some people's sense of taste is hard-wired differently from other people's. To some, cilantro tastes like soap; to me and many others, it just tastes like an innocuous Italian herb like basil or oregano. I find the taste of most sauvignon wines to closely resemble the smell/taste of furniture polish remover, but to many it is just an unremarkable dry wine.

The best salad I ever tasted was the antipasto platter at an Italian restaurant I used to go as a kid many decades ago with my parents. It had everything in it! Lettuce, cabbage, slices of provalone cheese, tunafish, hot peppers, sweet peppers, olives of many types, pickles, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, anchovies, and much more.

My favorite lunch these days is a toasted veggie sandwich with provalone, hot pepper relish or jalapeno slices, tomato slices, cucumber slices, avacado, onion, and romaine (the latter not so much this year).
Thank you......

Love basil, can’t stand basil pesto-tastes like black licorice to me. Go figure.

I love black licorice....
When I was a kid there was an ice cream shop in town that churned their own ice cream. They had a big window street side where you could watch them make it. They carried more flavors than Baskin Robbins. Mom and I would always get the black licorice. I have to admit it was a little alarming looking. A big black blob on a cone. :p

Black licorice is a favorite of mine as well. There was an ice cream place near where I used to live that also sold black licorice ice cream. They first offered it as a Halloween thing, but it was popular, so they kept it on. I used to stop and get a cone every night on my way home from work, even in winter.

Red or brown licorice now there are bags of rainbow

i have such a sweet tooth that anything like that is fair game. salt-water taffy bags of various flavors are way too tempting. if i want them to last longer i put them in the fridge or freezer. at the moment, all candies are not being bought and i'm trying to finish up what we have so there won't be any more temptation in the house.

I have had to give up so many candies to preserve my expensive and precarious dental work that it's sad. Licorice, salt water taffy, fireballs, caramels, the list is long. :-(
