That's so interesting. Sometimes I get a cob with crooked rows, or it isn't fully finished. Is that due to damage also?

Crooked rows (spiraling) is usually on ears with 14 or less kernel rows. If it starts out at 18, then reduced in rows, then a stress hitbthe plant before the 5 leaf stage.
