I don't think downsizing would be difficult for me. I keep stuff as long as there is a place for it. Throwing stuff away usually makes me feel good.

Someone I know recently "downsized" from a 4,400sqrft home to a 2,800sqft home. Shoot. I don't understand their thinking. There is less for the housekeeper to clean ... Four car garage. Can't get everything moved. Left behind, might be abandoned. (Thought only poor people did that.) Tarps outdoors.

I was looking at plans for a 325sqft house the other day. Well, it would make a very nice vacation cabin. Even the cabin I built years ago was 400sqft with a half basement and loft. Might have stayed in my cabin all this time but there was also a little barn ... ah, the simple life!

The summer we moved my In-laws to an apartment and they sold the house to our oldest. We hauled, and hauled and hauled out STUFF> Most went to dump. No way could it all go to an apartment and NO ONE wanted most of it. They had lived there 50 years. My boys said, you leave a place like this for us. We are just going to toss in a match! WELL..... that fall we had our house fire, I looked at both of them and said *Hey, we are still living here!* I thought that would downsize us a lot. But in the 10 years since we have managed to put as much back in! UGH. I NEED to start to weed it out.

The quality and price for the windows that you install always depends of your house quality , design as well as it's location. If you intend to stay in your home " forever" buy the best quality window that you want and afford. If you intend to sell your home, buy windows that fits the current situation to improve the sale price. I A victorian will have to have windows that were originally designed for it and you will recoup your investment and more , that is if the entire house is also upgraded and in great condition. A custom home will have to have custom windows and you will recoup it's purchase price and mabe some more if the rest of the house is also upgraded. A subdivision tract home depends on your neighborhood and the other homes upkeep condition. If good, you would be lucky to recoup 50% +/-. If more run down area, of no real increase in home value but will sell faster if the windows are new. Have fun shopping !!!

I think about this too. After cleaning out my parents house, which actually wasn't too very bad as we put a lot out on the corner for free, and the evil sibling had pretty much stolen anything of value and stored it in her hoarders rental unit before we got there.

I don't want to leave a hassle for my kids. We didn't have much when we moved in here, but after 16+ years we've managed to re-accumulate a lot.

Mary how high are your ceilings ? The window is a work of art. The house in Westport was 10,000 square feet. It was only 2 of us. My Ex wanted lots of children thats why the large house. We really only used 3 rooms the master bedroom and kitchen and library. The dining room was so large one Thanksgiving we had a sit down dinner for 42 people. Best part of the house was the view, it was on the water . Funny my whole house now is smaller then the ballroom of that house but enough room for me.

Yes, there are 8 windows total. The guy who made them never repeats his work. Green is my husband's favorit color and I just had to have bevel glass. So no one else will have my windows which I could care less about. He had a beautiful one in his portfolio that I wanted but he said no, haha.
