Good Heavens.

It's 15 November 2018! We are one week from Thanksgiving, here in the US.

I was informed last night that this means dinner at DD's. I remember about 7 years ago, a similar dinner site. No, she didn't leave the bag of turkey parts in the bird while pushing it into the oven, but nearly! I also remember some of the logistics involved in transporting every dang additional morsel miles from one kitchen to the dinner table!

Home-grown will, as usual, be the featured offerings. How's home-grown groaning going in your kitchen? Home hibernation? Home invasion? Autumn ... :)

I have never enjoyed cooking thanksgiving dinner, and no one else in the immediate family cooks much. So it is usually at my house or nothing. This year, we have contracted to have new flooring put in starting on (black) Friday, so I have a great excuse to not make any more mess in my house. We will spend the day clearing out personal effects and small furniture from the pertinent areas. Oh, I'll cook something, but it won't be the dreaded bird.

I've been on a new eating regime in which sugar and bread are verboten, so not having to watch other people eat stuffing and marshmallowed yams is OK by me.

I haven't been posting about it, but we have gotten the tile down in the kitchen and laundry room, and have settled on countertops and gas cooktop. Yay!

So how do the tile look ? I dont blame you for not wanting to cook for everybody. Once the local fire dept spends thanksgiving in your kitchen, you give up the idea of hosting the Holiday. One Thanksgiving I lied to all my family and friends, went to supermarket and loaded up on junk food, spent the day in bed watching old movies pigging out on junk food best holiday !!!!!!

one of my brothers and his wife will not let us have it so all we have to do this year is make a big salad so that my brother can eat it for the next week or so. before we also made dessert and homemade rolls, but nobody can eat them any more or wants us to bring them.

the past few weeks Mom has been cooking almost non-stop and is now off visiting friends for a while so i get a vacation and some quiet time. tomorrow i finally will cook for myself some Chinese and Thai (which she'd never touch).

Flowerbug, there is nothing wrong in you cooking what you want and her cooking what she wants. Just don't make so much that you have tons of leftovers. I like leftovers for lunch the next day and that's about it. ;)

Do you ever cook food you like and she doesn't when she is home ?

not often. i'm a happy omnivore. there's very little i won't eat. if she cooks i eat. :) a lot of the time she makes big salads and i'll have a smaller one (i just can't eat that much).

once or twice a month i'll make a cheeseburger, but i try to do that the days when she's off visiting. we're not often cooking meat here the past half dozen years. when we go out that's usually when we have some.

i don't cook often normally. i don't count reheating things in the microwave as cooking. we put a lot of things in the freezer and then use them during the week/month. what i cooked today i'll eat for the next week or so and throw in stuff from the fridge/freeze/cupboards for variety.

Two cranberry curd tarts done. Two pumpkin pies going into oven. One gluten free. Thank goodness Trader Joe's has a pretty good gluten free pre made pie crust.

All of our meal has to be gluten free. But it's delicious!
