Saturday, 6 quarts of pears from 1 of 7 buckets of pears. 6 buckets to go. Hope to finish those this week. They have really stored well in the garage AND the cats have access to the garage so no mousy foolishness nibbling on my fruit!

I have never just froze filling mix then loaded the crust for baking with thawed filling, later.

Seems like it should work.

Wanted to show you guys my new canning shelf I finished this week. I built it all by myself! :D

The one that was here when we bought the house was narrow and warped, rough cut lumber on shelf brackets. I painted the paneled wall and added some T5 lighting fixtures to the ceiling to brighten things up down there. I'm going to build another shelf on the backside of the wall (this is a center partition in my basement) for storage and to organize my laundry room. I have been on a mission to organize and minimize the clutter around here. Hope to be done before spring gets here.
I guess I missed this. You sure make me look lazy.

Pickle candy. Anyone tried it?

I saw it on the internet the other day. Thought I would try some. I got two 24 oz jars of bread & butter pickles. Filled up 3 dehydrator trays. I'll let ya know how they taste.

i am a month late, but i put up the garlic that was starting to sprout.

usually i get it done in January.

the garlic would keep longer without sprouting if i had kept it in a darker
location, but sometimes things get moved and i don't know it...

in this case i was able to salvage about 2/3rds of it and after i had it
trimmed of things that didn't look right i did the usual with it - which is
to grind it up in the meat grinder and then drench it well with lemon
juice and then pack it into small jars and heat up some lids, put them
on tight and then put it in the freezer for longer term keeping. it can
be kept in the fridge for a while because it is packed in enough acid
that i don't worry about it, but because Mom doesn't have any cooking
projects coming up for a while i just put it all in the freezer.

i will be giving away six small jars this weekend to get rid of it (to
whoever might want it that shows up at the seed swap this weekend).
i don't like the small jars and needed a good excuse to get rid of them
so this works out. :)
