I’m full of it. Wife understands nothing about sarcasm. Daughter has almost as much as I do. Wife always thinks we are mad at each other. Just doesn’t get it.

My daughter was in and out of private school. In the middle of 9th grade she wanted to go to public school. At the first of 11th grade, she only needed ONE credit to graduate that year--and they said NO. The school would not let her graduate early, would not let her take an extra credit, not summer school, nothing. So back to private school she went. She conned the principal into accepting college credits for high school credits and applied to college. She got turned down. Again and again and again. Finally they let her in. She was 16. She graduated high school at 16 and already was in college. She graduated at 19, got married, got a job, had a baby. Then she decided to get her Masters and got 2 degrees by age 22. She is now a college professor and almost through with her PHD, she is 32.

Most public schools just don't cut it. We now live in a very desirable school district. Real estate is through the roof. People move here because of the school district. Our son in law is a teacher here, almost and our 3 grand daughters will go to school here.

If the public school isn't giving you the results you want, by all means, put your girls in private school. Does your state have a pre-paid college fund? Texas does and it freezes the tuition at today's prices.

The average gym membership is $45/mo. At a VERY optimistic estimate, I MIGHT spend 3 hours a week there...

That would come to $3.75/hour to work up a sweat.
The average cost of a therapist is $100/session - once a week
I can't free range my chickens - so treats and, if I'm lucky enough to snag it, discounted produce will run about $30/week
Good vitamin D runs about $15/bottle - 30 days worth = $.50/day
Tanning runs about $70.00 month I had to google that.. WHO would pay that??? Anyway, that's $2.33 per day

SO! Just by going outside every day to pull weeds and tie up tomato vines and toss rotten, bug eaten produce to the chickens - I'm saving around $620.00 EACH MONTH even if I don't bring a single veggie in the house!!!

To be clear, I'm not tracking my expenses to justify my gardening; we track and categorize *every* expense. We even avoid using cash like the plague so that the overwhelming majority of our transactions can be downloaded into our budgeting software directly from our accounts, rather than having to enter anything manually. I like to see where every dime is going and make adjustments accordingly. We're so fastidious about it that if we get to the last few days of a month and we're cutting it close on the food budget but have leftovers in other categories, we'll still eat 100% out of the freezer and fridge for those last few days to avoid going over on that one line item.

All that garden planning doesn't exactly come in a vacuum, y'know.

Ben, I just finished reading through this thread, after letting it slip by for a few weeks. If you have room, I suggest you plant some smooth leaved kale, such as dinosaur kale or Lacinto (??) By smooth leaved, I mean not the curly ruffly kind that comes as plate garnish. It has kind of a bubbled surface. It is tasty and pretty tender. Your kale seedlings look great, as do your plans.

Yes, it's true. True also that Ben may have lots of seed but those are only for "kale" (tasty) in the "rutabaga" family. Including more seed in his garden for a "cabbage" family "kale" (tasty, too) would be worthwhile .

can always justify it all sorts of ways. which to me is why it is an integral part of life and not just a hobby or a side-line.
