CC, LOVE those pics of your grandgirl!!! I also love the pink chicky boots...my grandgirl has a similar pair. She LOVES her pink boots and will wear them to the mall and shopping, as well as out on the homestead.

Zinnias...by the far the most rewarding flower to plant with kids. Comes up each time, easy to plant grows like crazy and produces plenty of color until first hard frost and sometimes beyond...and the seeds are so easy to collect. Plenty of picking opportunities, as well as chances to see butterflies, bees, hummingbirds and other wildlife on the blooms without even having to bend over to get a look.

I have spring fever too. We actually got the garden cleaned up this fall and are just biding our time..... We have a big stack of triple thickness pumpkin boxes to lay out to smother weeds. :barnie We need to get those down and covered with mulch.

Your grand daughter is adorable. :love

@Crealcritter she is so CUTE. I Love her PINK Chicky boots ;) My grands call their boot mucking boots. They love the vegetables and will eat green beans, peas and broccoli right from the garden while working there with Papa. Thank you for plant her the zinnias :love

Is that what they are, zinnias? I always called them corn flowers. Cool thanks!

I like to plant a row or two close by my corn patch, because they are Japanese beetle magnets. I'll wait until the get good and infested with Japanese beetles, then kill off the Japanese beetles. Better they eat a little zinnias than my corn.

Yes exactly! My granddaughter and I picked several 3 lb coffee cans of dead flower heads before the freeze hit. She's going to plant her own row this year. I think I'm going to see how she does with sowing green beans also. She needs her own spot in the garden this year to tend to and pick - she will love it. And she will be proud when her and grandma cook up a mess of green beans she grew and picked. It's little things like that, that go a long ways to building confidence and sense of accomplishment. Lord knows they need all they can get in today's world.

Not always adorable :) She can get mad as a hornet. expecially when Mom and Dad says it's time to go home but she want to stay and work with Paw Paw. She loves helping me with anything outside, even working on the truck. They are only young for so long, I try make the most of the time with her and her sister when they are around and while I still can. Her sister is definitely Grandma's girl but I'm working on that also :)

@Crealcritter I see you are following one of out customs, our kids or grandkids are really cute when we have them. I really like her look of self-confidence and she looks thoughtful, she is more than just cute. Do you think she might find it fun (and educational) to save seeds from her favorite colors of zinnias and plant those? They probably will not come back all the same color but that might be part of the fun.

That's a great idea thanks. Since she loves to eat green beans from the garden. This year I want to ---try-- and teacher her start to finish with green beans. See how she does with sowing (the seeds are big and easy to handle). Show her how to weed and mulch, them and how to water and pick the beans. My wife can show her how to clean, snap and cook them). Then I'll show her how to pick & sting some up to dry for seed next year. I'm pretty sure she's ready but if not that's ok to. You don't know unless you try.

@Crealcritter the grandsons where very careful planting the peas and beans (even at 2 years) spaced much nicer than when Papa or Grandma would do it. Closer to the ground maybe ;) I see Blue Chicky boots :) I am looking forward to seeing more of her adventures with Paw Paw. :love
