Me again, Some Iowan seem to be able to find humor even in the C**p

I rocked and rolled and was trapped in my office in Campbell CA for the 89 earthquake. I don't remember houses falling down in Santa Cruz. Lots were damaged in Los Gatos. Tons fell down in SF.

Going to rain for the next 6 days!

Murphy (as in "the law") told me that it must be bitter cold outside... because that is the perfectly wrong time to break my furnace. And of course, just after normal business hours (which is when heaters usually break). "Murphy" really gets under my skin. Looks like one of the motors seized, an HVAC tech is on their way in, hope he can get the motor tonight.

Fortunately, I have a forced-air wood burner connected to the furnace ducts, as a backup against furnace failure - and plenty of dry wood. Normally that stove would easily heat the whole house, but its already -12 F., and its just barely keeping the temperature from dropping further. I also have 4 electric space heaters, and have 3 of them running already to help out. It's going to get a lot colder tonight, hope I can keep the house warm enough to protect all of DW's house plants. Me, I sleep better when its cold... but then, I'll have to get up every couple hours to feed the stove.

@Zeedman , ouch! Hope you get your furnace running quickly. That was a good plan having a wood burning backup.

WHY do people rush out to buy milk & bread???? WHAT ARE THEY MAKING???
I always need crackers.. everything I make during winter storms needs crackers - chili, chicken soup, tuna salad, sharp cheese slices, fudge frosting

Yeah. Ouch. @Zeedman ! Anxious to learn that it all turns out okay.

These are the kind of untoward events that can derail plans. They are almost never when everything can go smoothly with easy transitions. Murphy sees to that.

Just the anxiety and disruptions are taxing. Taxing on relationships. You are already prepared. Try to see options. Reassure DW that stumbles and foolhardy behavior will be guarded against. Focus.

I was just offered some additional responsibility at a time when my service to Dad is growing. The new looks like fun but others are likely to be understanding that it would be a diversion from priorities. Maintenance isn't much fun but it becomes a priority.

I doubt I'll even go outside today. DH is taking Penny to doggy day care in spite of the cold cold temps and strong wind. Ah well, she's got a fur coat.
I am pretty sure they won't be playing outside for long today.
The gas furnace running so much really dries out the air in here. I am keeping a pot of boiling/simmering water on to help with the static electricity and dry noses. Humidifiers don't last long with the heavy calcium in the water.

it is the same here. i've thought of wrapping a damp cloth in a scarf and wearing that most of the day (changing scarf and cloth every day). Mom says she rinses her nose/sinuses out in the morning and at night and is doing ok.

Even taking precautions we have frozen water pipes going to the kitchen sink. Grrrrr It is -17 and windy so they are saying feels like - 50/60 So glad there is no school today! Even the Post Offices are closed so the carriers do not have to work in this. Well I better go work at getting pipes thawed. Already have a space heater blowing into cabinet and fan at crawlspace in basement. Ugh.
