The local TV and radio stations in SW Washington / NW Oregon are now reporting that the latest snow storm is now named "Mia " . This naming stunt is to increase the weather news ratings. :hu The weather people are forecasting that the first wave will arrive here about 7 PM, then come in waves until Tues. with a total of FOURTEEN INCHES OF SNOW. :th Heaven help us as we are DOOMED. The news channels have their reporters go to the hardware / big box stores to tell us that most of the snow shovels are sold out and bagged salt stock piles are low. Groceries , cookies, cokes, and booze are flying off the shelves and those shoppers saying that they are stocking up for the next 2 weeks. :pop The news reporters are also interviewing the snow plow drivers as to say what they are doing to prepare for this weather event. :bow What they are not saying is that the snow is NOT the issue, but the black ice under the snow is the real culprit in traffic accidents. :caf

I just saw this on the Accuweather site.
"Seattle Braces for Heaviest Snowfall in Two Years!"

Yikes. Heaviest in two whole years. That's some kind of record there.

Yeah, news anchors always go stand in the blowing rain, wind, and high water during a hurricane, to show us how bad it is.

Its all drama. All media is owned by only 4 major companies. What you see is what they want you to see.

Bob does have some choices there in the Portland metro area.

The major teevee affiliates of ABC, CBS, NBC, & Fox are all owned by major media players like Sinclair and Nestar.

The newspapers are mostly local, except for the Oregonian, now owned by the company that has the Discovery channel. Local Willamette Week has won Pulitzers.

Local Alpha Broadcasting owns several radio stations in Portland and Vancouver.

Then there is the public non-profits.

Regardless of how hyped up the event is, it is a long storm series. It's sure gonna be pretty seeing the snow on all those evergreen trees. I hope they don't break or fall under all that wet snow.
