+3 on Baker Creek; they probably have the largest selection of novelty vegetables - and their vegetables are usually pretty much as described (albeit with occasional exaggeration). ;)

Be wary of some of those online vendors, that often send you seeds much different than the wild & crazy things they advertise... I've seen warning threads about several of those on other garden forums. Some are located overseas, so you have no recourse once you find out you were ripped off. More importantly, it means you wasted a year growing something that turns out to be less than you expected.

I collect & grow a lot of oddities & heirlooms (see my avatar). If you are a container gardener, you might be interested in a bush hyacinth bean, or a bush long bean... or an orange currant tomato. That currant tomato is actually best grown in a container, to stunt its rampant nature... planted in the ground, I think it would smother weeds. :ep

Zeedman, thanks! I keep seeing these suggestions pop up about Baker Creek and seems I need to give them a look. I don't expect a whole lot from these "too good to be true" seed packets being advertised. My expectations are held within reason and just want to see what comes from them. By no means do these ones I'm seeing cost an arm and a leg - typically still $2 - $4 which is pretty standard anyways.

Whatever that monstrosity is in your avatar is incredible! I'm going to continue on looking into Baker creek and do a little research on the orange currant tomato you're recommending also. Love me some exotic maters! Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!

The tomato I mentioned was given to me at a seed swap, by Remy (the owner of Sample Seeds). Another good source for unusual tomatoes, by the way, and a great person to deal with.

I've grown several other currant tomatoes, and they had severe problems with cracking and/or fruit dropping. This one seldom has problems; and if you cut off a whole string of those tomatoes with stem attached, they will keep for weeks. If you want to try it, I could send you seed... just PM your snail mail.

My favorite tomatoe is a black one called Japanese Black Trifele. It has a smoky flavor that I love in my salsa. It's a must grow for me.

Most of my seeds are from Baker Creek. If there is one that you might be interested in let me know so I can check to see if I have it.
