^^ what Seed said. Damn California. We sprinkled my Father in Law's ashes on the ocean off of a pier in Crescent City, CA 20 years ago. Its what we wanted to do and what he wanted also. Then a few years later, we took my Mother in Law's ashes up to Squim WA, where she was born and raised, and did the same there. We were careful and secretive, but its so much better than a hole in the ground, IMO.

Daddy is at a Military Cemetary in the middle of dry damn California, and I've never gone to see him. Its a dry horrible place.

Hugs and pats on the back to you and your family, Major. I would love to have seen him swim Alcrataz or the entire width of Lake Tahoe!!! Amazing!!

many of you have been wondering where i have been and why st.pattys day is a saddening...

on march 17th my father passed away quietly at home from a year long battle with Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia cancer. thank goodness both my sisters were there to help him cross over.
he was a loving father, he touched a untold amount of people's lives though his giving to the community and his religious devotion going to numinous prisons for outreach programs every sunday and sometimes the whole weekend...

until last year he would go swimming every day he belonged to the usms <us masters swimming organization>over his lifetime he held records that were not beaten till a few years ago, he loved open water swimming as well, can remember dad dragging the family down a couple times a year when he would swim the golden gate, alcatraz, angel island events. one of the few people who have swam the length of lake tahoe.

in his well he requested for his ashes to be spread either in sf bay or tahoe, of cali is one of the most uptight state about were you can spread ashes. but the way all of us siblings figure screw them..

wish i could go further in depth but as of now there's going to be a legal battle between us 4 and his spouse,
may she choke on her honey balls.....

think this is one of the most memorable photos of dad

So sorry. Losing your Dad is just the worst. I hope he did not suffer. I am very sorry that he did settle the financial issues while he could.

thank you everyone....we new his batteries getting low, so we were prepared just hated getting the phone call in the middle of the night that he is hospice care at home and he had 72 hrs.. we all joking on the hope he would pass on the 13th <pi day> dad was an accountant all his life. but he hung on till sunday afternoon which was interesting mom passed away 8 years and a day.....

he did not want any celebration of life or anything and that was in his will, but of course the spouse is going against his wish. as for his ashes they legally went to her, so if she wants she could hang onto them as long as she wants, my sister is the exc of his estate she has asked for dads ashes in a timely manner so all of us can have closure, we have not heard back from her as of yet....i did email her asking for the ashes to be given to my sister in september since i will be out in tahoe for a week and this would be a good time to say all our goodbyes. if she does not reply in a timely manner we have all agreed to chip in for a lawyer.
dad was a big fan of open water swimming so one idea is to see if the swim club he belonged to would allows us to spread his ashes off their pier. the other is to rent a boat and spread in tahoe.. screw cali

as for finances dad being an accountant all his bills were paid up except for hospice which my sister paid for and we will pay her back....but dad being the smart one set up all his accounts were we would not have to pay little to no taxes, going to leave my portion of the ira with his financial broker since reviewing the growth of it over the years, the last 3 years it has been 10%,this is a no brainer since im only 2.5 year from where i will need to start taking distributions......correction have 12.5 year

as for all his stocks told dads broker we would discuss this next week, basically i could retire if i cashed my portion in.. have looked over all the stocks they have been great performers, after doing some reading this might not be the best to cash out, yes will cash some in i need a new vehicle big red is becoming a money pit and theres a few things around the house that needs to be addressed.

the biggest thing rolling around my head is leaving my job and find something more enjoyable....

I'm sorry, Major. I wish I could bear some of that sorrow for you and your family but know that your family here are grieving for you. :hugs Your dad sounded like he was a really great guy and touched a lot of people's lives. I know he touched ours by bringing up a person such as you for all of us to enjoy knowing.

Major, I just now saw this sad news. I'm so sorry about this. In many ways, the rest of your life will be divided between "before Dad died" and "after Dad died". Not necessarily a good thing or a bad thing, it's just how we come to remember the sequence of our life.
I hope things go well with the details. Family can be so weird sometimes. Hugs to you.
