It's A Lovely Day In The Neighborhood

We have had two warm sunny days in a row, and no terrible wind, so spring is busting out at my house. Yesterday I got one of the hummingbird feeders out and filled and hung outside. It is only two weeks till I usually see the first hungry hummers here, so I wanted to get the jump on things. I also bought a couple of hanging basket plants for the patio, red as an attractant. A hummer should be able to see them from a mile away! According to "Journey North", hummers have been sighted near the Missouri border, so it shouldn't take them too long to get here.
I have little kale, cabbage and broccoli plants out side hardening off. I should be able to plant them in the garden in about a week. The tomatoes and peppers are up, but enjoying the ambience of fluorescent lighting and fan in the basement.
So today is good and spring-like, but of course, rain is expected tomorrow.

Oh, and I wanted to mention, to you who are stewing about what goes into potting mix and fertilizer, Miracle Gro is advertising a new organic soil mix (Don't know what that entails) and an organic fertilizer. It's good to know the big guys are listening to us.

I've been thinking about hummers also, it seems way too early but I think they usually arrive mid April, which is right around the corner.

I still have quite a bit of snow in my garden spot, but am starting to see some soil show through. Those lovely spring days in the neighborhood are so encouraging after winter.

it is not as much stewing as hoping they are doing things sustainably - so not just what is in it but how they are sourcing the materials used.

putting the word "Organic" on it could just be a marketing thing. i'd have to research the topic to see what the regulations state about something like this - unfortunately, i don't have the time (it doesn't apply to us because i use worm compost and the ingredients to that are our food and paper scraps).

i may try to get a little digging done outside today.

a lot of the early crocuses are out plus the early irises.

Well...with regards to Miracle Gro...YOU try it first and report back to me. IF it really is organic they will go out of business.

Not one to complain, but your "lovely day" was a tad too hot for me. I did get outside and enjoyed the being out. I even did get some late pruning done.

Rumor has it that son is taking the fencing down from around the garden and putting it around the coop. Not a bad idea, the carrots and tomatoes weren't much for roaming anyway. A plus, the chickens will be safer and easier to watch after.

Mowing and such will be so much easier without a fence. It hampered mower movement and made tough work out of an otherwise well-planned garden.

Finally, spring is here . . . at least until this up-coming snow.

Looks like the snow may stay up your way. But yep I should not complain but todays near 80 was a tab warm. Not staying as we are in for cooler weather and storms mid week.

Hey! Great to see you again! It must have been hotter at your place than mine. Now, yesterday we had 80 degrees. That was a little warm for working out in the sun, for this delicate flower.
