@Pulsegleaner,

I went into the basement and lifted the Ice Cream Sandwich packet out of it's box just for a second or two and shined a flashlight on it. The seeds color looks rather purple or almost burgundy. One of the beans Simocox sent to me. He probably named it to.

A Joe Simcox bean? Then that could have come from almost anywhere so my comment about needing a long season stands. Purple burgundy sounds about right for a dark skinned lablab.

Yes, I am still here! I've made it halfway through the network pages trying to figure out what I want to grow. I have previously grown out about a third of those on your never grown out list, as I got some of the same beans from Marshall, but mine are nearly as old as yours now.

We have been kept busy around here with baby goats, getting my Dad's house ready to sell and homeschooling, but I will make a point to sit down and make my selections and get back to you asap. I'd like to grow out Indian Mound if it hasn't been spoken for yet.

@bluejay, I can grow Shumway Experimental this year too if the seeds have not shipped yet. Otherwise I'll get it next year. First daffodils are blooming here, but they are saying southern MN may get snow...hoping it stays south of us!

Benishibori - - -- - - - - - - - - -Bush Dry bean from Australia might have come from their seed bank

I have Benishibori that I'm growing out this year; I'll send you some! At least it's *a* Benishibori; but it's such an unusual name I can't imagine there's more than one. It's a red and white speckled-y bush bean.

Oh Yay @journey11 I thought you might come along eventually. Glad you will be here this year. You grow very nice seed.

@Lady0bug, I think there is probably enough Shumway Experimental seed to break it up into more than one grow out sample. You will probably get some and Eleanor in Michigan will be growing it this year too. I usually send out 12 seeds in a sample. I don't know if most growers plant that much but even if 8 of them grow. You can grow about 2 pounds or more of dry beans with that amount of seed.

@saritabee, That would be great to have Benishibori back again. Yep it was marked as a bush bean when I first got it. Thank you ! I don't remember what it looked like. I went through the websites photo folders to see if I had taken it's photo sometime but I hadn't.

I've got a bean trade going with a fellow in Italy. I will mention these beans on our gone list that look like Italian names. He might be able to come up with some of them.

Just thought I would mention this. It's snowing again here today. Predicted amount is 8-10 inches. It feels like the 117th of January. The winter that never ends.

@Pulsegleaner, I did a little research on the ice cream bean and found a Fruitful Forest Movie https://vimeo.com/133834425. At 52:15 in the video, Joe Simcox opens a bean he calls the ice cream bean from the amazon rain forest. Unfortunately they don't show what the seed or plant looks like, only the pod and the white flesh that surrounds it. Will be interested to see if that is what you get from the seed.

@journey11,

There is plenty of seed of the second Indian Mound sample that I got. The one that looks somewhat similar to Logan Giant with more brown and a little less white. It would be interesting to see if it changes in other soils.

These Are The Gone Forever or Wanted beans

We had two fellows from Africa sent beans back in 2013 and Marshall Smyth from California doanated his bean collection and was the one who originally encouraged me to start this Network. Also a world seed traveler by the name of Joseph Simcox donated many beans he collected.

I have quite a bit of Solwezi from a 2015 grow out (about 3 pounds) and would be happy to contribute some to the network. It was highly diverse, with different DTMs, pods, and seed colors... but I sorted for the same all-gray seed that was sent to me, since that segregation was by far the most productive. Given the diversity present in the original seed, it was probably a land race, and is likely still unstable.
