2019, the NUMBERS, I mean, is such WEIRD year, don'tcha think? I am STILL having trouble writing it out.

I have been hijacking threads, so about time I started my own.
Here are today's pictures. Got lots of purple out in the front yard. Here are the purple columbine that are still flowering, though several have now gone to seed. They are next to my black iris, starting to come in.

More Iris...
May 23 #14.jpg

I planted two yellow mums, both doing well, one in flower, the other about to flower. I wonder if they will flower again this Fall? Doesn't matter, they will grow good roots this season, and the asters I planted there last fall didn't make it.

don't be too surprised if that last rhubarb dies back and then comes back later this summer/fall for another try before the frost takes it out.

Your plants look pretty good to me! Love love love the black iris. Beautiful!
I have to separate the iris. IF I can get to it, and anybody wants some I could ship and ask for stamps back to cover the cost. They are VERY HARDY!!! I have probably over 50 of them, which I started from ONE plant. We could also do an exchange. I noticed how the company packaged my bareroot apple trees, with shredded paper and plastic wrapped around to keep them moist and I always have medium pine shavings.

Had to work Saturday, so gardening was a bust! :hit
So was Sunday, Safety committee at church and had to shop when I didn't have to rush, so...busted gardening.:somad:hit
(I guess my tears put out my anger.)
Yesterday, had to mow the 1/5 acres with DH and looks darn good. It is our civic duty. If you don't mow, you will hear
about it.
Here is that "mint bed" behind the house (west side) where I tilled up, found the 4 inch thick knobby "pavers" that I made into a border. Almost every one of the corn plants that I started under grow lights survived! I used my hand rake in between the corns, laid down 4 beans for every corn, then top dressed them with compost. The compost was in a water trough planter in 2018 that I dumped in the big garden, so it is WELL rotted. I KNEW that it would be impossible to harvest/work here, 6 ft at the widest, by the house, so I laid down some broken pavers/bricks/broken pieces of rubber stall mats strategically to give me a place to stand through the season. I also planted:
1) handful of (sacrificial) hubbard squash seeds
2) about 8 blue pumpkins (from seeds I saved)
3) catnip seeds
4) soft garlic that was in my onion/garlic bin and seriously sprouting

Me and my NIKON pocket camera will check again in a month and see how everything is shaping up here. :celebrate
