will you be my fren? :) haha! congrats, and looks so good to see fresh strawberries.

i've not been able to kill them off here by the cold so i'd be surprised if you even had to cover yours down there. the issues i have with them are late frosts which can cut down some of the production, frost heaving if i've transplanted them too late in the fall or the animals eating them (the plants outside the fenced areas).

in those raised boxes make sure they get enough water when the temperatures pick up.

Already your fren! :p
One of the reasons the boxes went in that spot is because it's always so wet for days after a rain. I'm hoping that they will 'wick' up some of that. But if not - they're right there with the tomatoes and beans so will get watered. I'm actually amazed that they are sill holding together!!! They were untreated, dry, thin wood that I slapped a couple coats of paint on. I figured that I'd have strawberry 'mounds' before a year was up.

Last summer I 'treated' myself to a big'ol galvanized watering can just like the one Uncle Mark used to have. So I'm always looking for reasons to use it. Berries are as good as any, and better than some. :D

Just a quick stop-in. Work has been brutal. Truck traffic has doubled. Which means that I am spending so much time working the scale that I have to stay about an hour late each evening trying to get my admin and AP work done. Then the boss extended our hours to accommodate 1 customer who was not able to get his trucks in for a 2nd round because of the longer wait times. Nice for him, but is putting me at 12hr+ days.
:thI'm pretty much getting home, feeding everyone, packing lunch for the next day and crashing.

But, I got a little herb bed put in over the Memorial Day weekend.

lemon grass, walking onions, summer savory, 2 kinds of basil, oregano, lemon balm, catnip, dill, chives

That big, red thing is (was) my chick brooder. I was raising some guineas in it but the little devilbirds pecked a hole right through the plywood back and headed for the hills . The 3 remaining have been moved to a plastic dog crate inside the chicken coop. I guess that I'll try to salvage some of the wire & roof panels and burn the rest. It was starting to weather pretty hard and probably wouldn't have lasted another season anyway.
