What are You Eating from the Garden?

Ate some snap peas and strawberries. Wife eats store bought, I’d rather eat kale.....

We had some warmer weather and my spinach and mustard bolted, and now cool again, but too late. I am going to try to plant this fall.

Rhubarb and berry crisp for dessert tonight.

Eating these daily.

You REALLY appreciate your fruit trees!! Lovely!!!
Some folks regret planting fruit trees bc they have to clean up after them.

Try in full shade. That is what I will be doing this summer. ALL of my spinach bolted, but I super filled with spinach and other cool weather vegetables in my potato bed to help with weeds, so I will let them bolt and drop seeds. MIGHT have some more spinach this Fall. Good luck!

I have to ration them out. We only get 2 a piece daily. I have an adorable 2 yr. old who asked me for more today and I had to stand firm! Lol Although I told my husband to give her some strawberries without anyone seeing him, haha.

picked another collander of strawberries this morning. will clean them up and smush them for tonight. surprised by how many there were hiding away. this will probably be the last big picking from the patch, but i thought that last time too.

I took the plunge and tried turnip tops out of the garden in a tomato salsa for my 'three cheese' (bought) raviolli. Topped with my home made fake Parmesan.
I was surprised at how good it was!!
Salsa was a bought passata, but hopefully next grow season, I will have enough tomatoes to make my own.

My fake Parmesan cheese= a block of bog standard bought cheese cut into thirds, salt rubbed on all sides and sat in a cool cupboard, rubbing and turning each day for a month....aging it.
I wipe off any remaining salt, rub all over again and then a few days later grate using the fine-ist side of the grater.
I leave it in the bowl shaking it around each day, for another couple of weeks to let out any remaining moisture and then pop it in a glass jar. You have to keep it in the dark.
To be honest, it probably takes longer to make this than it costs to buy the real thing, but thats perversity for you.
Maybe next year, I'll get back into cheese making again and make some from scratch. Here's hoping.
