What Did You Do In The Garden?

the spring mix cover crop was dying ,hooked up the discer to the old girl incorporated that mass into the soil tossed out 2 lbs of red clover, what timing it has started to rain. will let that grow till sept then plant a winter cover crop .....
yesterday was..
finish the trim
put away tools
nap
dishes swept and mop kitchen floor
nap
lunch
nap
wash pillows
mowed property
cold beer ...followed by nap
dinner
insomnia till 3 am

you made me snort out loud, laughing. Naps....

That's a lot of naps

And I bet you wonder why you have insomnia.

We had strong straight-line winds yesterday that tore off roofs, uprooted huge old trees in the local park, (and elsewhere) and generally made a mess of things. Today I pulled limbs from a sassafras tree and a maple tree out of my garden and off the top of the chicken enclosure. No major damage to our property, but at this rate, we won't have anything but stubs and stumps left by fall.

The sweet corn is up, the sugar snap peas and onions are also peeking out a little and the old cucumber seed I planted is also sprouting, surprisingly.

I try to get after the random weeds with the scuffle hoe every day. This may be my first vegetable garden that doesn't get swallowed with weeds. I expect more to sprout soon, after the thunder showers we've had recently. But only watering right where the plants are with the soaker hoses has definitely made a difference.

Oh, I forgot, the front flower beds got some lovin' today. First attention of the season. I took longer than I had planned so the back border and the picket garden are still messy.
Maybe they'll get a turn next Saturday. Or maybe not...they'll just have to take a number and get in line, haha.

Today we weeded MORE, tried to get rid of rabbits 9not having much luck and they LOVE the kale, and tomatoes.) Brought home a LOT of mint for drying. Pick our 1st peas. Mmmm fresh peas with lunch tomorrow.

Seems we are all fighting the same issues, too much rain and weeds. Spent hours weeding yesterday, I think I gained on them but the war is far, far from over. I’ve still got seedlings that (if they are up) can’t be seen for the grass.

Got bur cucumber from straw I used last year. Didn’t get them pulled fast enough last year. So I pulled some that were 3-4’ Long plus hoed some starts out. That is one nasty weed. Makes grass look like a picnic.

i've not seen those here yet, thanks for the heads-up.

yes, weeding is a challenge this year. we've kept on top of the fenced area gardens ok but the two large areas outside the fence that i normally work on and plant some garden veggies in have been overrun. i'm now back working in the north garden so that is gradually being cleared again. the deer are making a mess of anything i do in there so i'm not having any plans this season other than keeping it clear and then i will lift and divide a line of bunching onions along the thyme. the deer have no bothered them much so far (other than trampling).
