yes i did.... alex came with me on the trip wore his stonybrook kennel cap to the reunion bbq

spent the last 3.5 hrs cleaning out ,washing,vacuuming the car....amazing how dirty a car can get on a 6k road trip with just 1 person...

just think going up to dw dad's house for thanksgiving with 3 people for a week....tyvek suits for everyone....

while out yesterday had to fill up the car..... this is that i'm talking about...

We WOULD be the same gas price as you @majorcatfish , but our Trust Fund Baby Governor added gas taxes this year, which Now are 38 cents/gallon. He Promised to lower our Property Taxes in exchange for the gas tax. I'll be dead before that happens.

just in case you dont know your gas tax rate.... ouch 61.2 in cali

That makes it slightly over 1/4 for each gallon!
OUR roads aren't getting any better and neither are our bridges.
I guess the politicians in our state can take their slush funding to their graves WITH them.

Interesting numbers Major. I assume that NC pump price is for 87 octane, same as the Tahoe gas. I'd trust you to get an apples to apples comparison.

In California $4.299. In North Carolina $2.289. If my math still works that's $2.01 per gallon difference at the pump.

California Sate tax $0.6120, North Carolina $0.3645. That's 24.75 difference in taxes.

So $2.01 minus $0.2475 gives $1.7525 difference that is not due to taxes. Any ideas why?

My guesses are that California has the highest emissions requirements in the country. It costs more to refine California gas than other gas. That's cost of equipment and more processes.

Refineries set up to refine gas acceptable to California are generally not in California. California will not license them because they don't want the emissions from the refineries released in their state. So the gas has to be transported in from out of state. Transportation costs.

Tahoe is a resort area. Things are more expensive in that area. They are allowed to charge more because things in general are more expensive there.

I don't now how much competition they have. Gas stations on the interstate with little competition often charge a lot more than one just a few miles away but harder to get to.

When we were regularly driving between Arkansas and Louisiana through Mississippi we would fill up in Mississippi. We knew which gas stations had the best prices and clean rest rooms. Some we avoided like the plague.
