Have we lost our minds?????? ok the 20 cubic foot upright is full to the brim. The garden is just coming into full production. We do can quite a bit but, freeze field peas, peppers, butter beans etc. There was a good sale going so now we also have a 7 cubic foot chest freezer for "overflow". We won't end up with 2 stuffed full freezers will we???? Please somebody lie to me and say no. :)

Absolutely not Steve, you will wonder why you bought the crazy thing. It will set half full of clothes that should go to Goodwill and old copies of Hobby Farming, Mother Earth News and old seed catalogs because you know you need something in it and also to keep it running to have any resale value.
Seriously, you can't have enough cold storage available. We have two big chest freezers that we keep 3/4's to completely full all the time. A beef and hog early in spring (income tax refund), vegetables in summer, chickens, turkeys and now ducks in the fall, and rabbits all year. It's a good life being an urban farmer, once you get the hang of it.

It's just for over flow .... will not fill it, will not fill it, will not fill it. Why is it still filling up? :)

LOL.... and here I am bugging hubby we need a chest freezer! The tiny one above our fridge is full and he doesn't understand I need to can and freeze sauce, beans, tomatoes and corn still!!!! (This doesn't include my second round of tomatoes or corn that get planted in a couple weeks. )

You should understand that Steve.... in NC we get like a double summer, and then a fall planting. Oh GOSH.... so where did you get that freezer, and how much!?

Oh, brother. I guess I should fess up! We have the small freezer below our fridge, the small freezer about our extra summer fridge, a huge upright and a smaller chest (unplugged for now). We're also in the middle of processing 100 meat chickens, so the 2 farm freezers are on now, too! Yikes!

come on steve, you arent a true pro until you have THREE freezers like us!!!

it helps that we can store them turks 'on the hoof'.. but there's nothin' like a big row of freezers to make you happy you dont have to do to the grocery!

hey! "everybody loves a freezer!" right?
hee hee hee hee

now the big project is to figure out a root cellar or a spring house.. i'm working on that one.....
