There can be endless combinations of homegrown and discounted ingredients. Our 3-person dinner costs less than 5 Euros.

The old bread from the TGTG magic bag became breadcrumbs. The discounted chicken breast was marinated for BBQ, but it's also convenient to become a fried chicken.

Chicken skin seasoned with salt, garlic, and chili powder - with a pre-heated pan, the skin will generate sufficient fat to stir-fry the veggies.

Shiitake mushrooms, green pepper from yesterday's TGTG bag, homegrown salad, and mini carrots after thinning the carrot bed.

The fried chicken is served with the spicy tomato sauce I made in the morning. I prefer to cook (and grow) because there is no way to get such food.

I know that they have gone up in price at the market but eggs are a low-cost, complete protein. Potatoes are low-priced, too. (Had a nice harvest from a few Red Norland plants, this week ;).)

Hashbrowns. Leftovers? Okay, cooking in the microwave is supposed to save something like 40% ++ on fuel costs, I read. Sure, reheat the hashbrowns but how about a poached egg on top?

Pour some boiling water in a bowl, drop egg in the water, put in microwave (no pan to clean). You gotta watch it, takes my microwave less than 1 minute and longer would result in a mess. It can sit for the short moment it takes to reheat the hashbrowns. Spoon egg on top. Done. And, my second breakfast for 2 mornings.

I also like to use the microwave to heat up leftover soup - some leftover, water, veggies, eggs, and then seasoning when it's done. Sometimes, I add some milk into the soup, and it becomes a totally different flavor.

i like it when we have some boiled eggs in the fridge for a snack that has some sticking power. we do have some today and i'll probably have a few for 2nd breakfast or 2nd brunch... :)

Perhaps @Phaedra Geiermann , if I was to slow the poaching down some, milk would be an okay for boiling an egg and it might be especially okay on toast. It was the first time that I tried poaching an egg in the microwave :).

DW is happy with a "scrambled egg" from the microwave but I don't think much of them.

A hard or soft boiled egg would be really risky 💣!

My meals have been pretty much a whole lot of not so great lately. I bought some of those frozen meals, not so good and not very filling, but at least it’s something. I’ve been working so hard at the farm and I drag in so tired, that a microwave frozen mass produced small serving of anything hits the spot.

Son came in from Nebraska Monday night. Tonight we’ll have ham bone and beans with cornbread. It’s in the crockpot.

Tonight we feast!

Moving Saturday, moving sheep and dogs Sunday. Then maybe I can get back to cooking some decent meals.

Cornbread for dinner

That's what I heard about Texan Grandma Pearl's cooking: biscuits for breakfast and cornbread for dinner.

There was also something about cottage-fried potatoes and gravy. Maybe that was for lunch ;).
