:)Hattie and I had a few conversations about this plant a while back

I looked and looked, but not find it here, not in the nursery's so far and sometimes folks had no idea what I was talking about and just took me to kale kale...

She told me it was a "must have" for my garden ...Seakale is a beatiful /edible maritime plant that is a native to the UK .

I KNEW I had seen it here... for sure I have seen it up in Vancouver BC in many gardens

So on my walks I just kept looking ..thinking if I saw it in someone's yard in town I would just ask for some seed pods when they were outside working

Hattie gave me info ..and the bug to find it!!! so YAY! :throw!! I found a plant and that plant had dried out seed pods on it!!! ...and the seed pods were hanging over the sidewalk!!! (I have a "do not touch in someone's yard" rule but the sidewalk or road are fair game for any and all plant and seed "snipping's"! )

..this plant has off shoots on it so if I ever see the plant's person ..I am going to walk by often now and just ask about the seakale (when I see someone out in the yard) and offer a trade for something nice I have they might like .. this what is known as PLANT STALKING LOL!!!

the seed pods are so cool ...they are literally covered in an air tight cork casing so they can float in the water and find new destinations!

Thank you so much Hattie !!!...I can not wait to have my own seakale plants growing ....gardening is such an adventure! .. this board is such a wealth ....I am constantly looking for and finding the absolute coolest things to add to my garden

So anyone who knows ..fill my head with seakale knowledge would you? so far I know I am going to add quite a bit of sand to the soil where they will reside and pant the seeds in pots 2 days before the next full moon (next Friday) ..other than that ..how to grow it? and what it likes in the way of soil treatments? or just stick it in the dirt and let it grow?

...should they stay in the house or will they be ok on my sun porch? I have about 30 seeds and p.an to save a few but start most of them..I know they would look perfect in and around the bottom rock tier ..athey look like a sturdy plant and I can not imagine they would be hard to translant

Because of the silvery gray color I am going to put a few in the moon garden! I bet the catch the moonlight and glow at night looking at the color of the plant ....

I was reading that some are black seakale? but they show photos of silver green?

if you are not familiar with seakale or sea kale (I have seen it spelled both ways like ..chile and chili! )

Hope this will keep you going for a while? :gig

By the way it tastes good too-- you have to blanch it. I have had it in spring salads & cooked in a sauce. Both in Holland & in England.

the plant I got the seeds from looks exactly like the photos but a bit more slivery in color ..maybe it is because they are at the end of the winter? the flower stalks are still on there ...

I would take a photo but it is kind of intrusive to do that to people I think :p

when mine sprouts I will show you!

I just got through the first links now for my favorite subject how to eat them!!!
