    A Seed Saver's Garden

Attended my first agility class tonight (for dogs, not humans!) Wow, 2 hours long and it was a GREAT class! I learned so much. Watching how the different dogs react to each scary obstacle and the proper way to respond. The whole thing really is reinforcement + deterrence. Of course...

I have honestly never understood that human desire for high risk speed. I'm all about self preservation, lol. I appreciate the graceful moves of the professional down hill skier - but from a chair indoors. And with dogs it's like you're combining a predator mindset and speed, a rabbit appears...

Yes, I got this one from Metchosin. I wish there was a little more info about it, I might write to them and ask when I get some time. https://metchosinfarm.ca/products/jersey-pole-bean

Got a neat new bean called 'Jersey Pole'. Looks like a brown Vaquero. Planning to grow it this summer.

I guess you really do live in a climate that is considerably warmer than mine @Blue-Jay, to get the tan coloring. Mine were so blue, but Bela is a later maturing bean and we were getting cooler weather for sure in September. Illinois is probably still quite hot at that time. I sent a couple...

I took a class on this sport and knew it wasn't for me, mega speed and big trees seems a bad mix to me. Lol Maybe skijoring, but not the sled. But this is my trainer, I'm shocked the dogs didn't just keep going 🤣 🤣 🤣 darn Eurohounds

The dark side of modern Breeding

I have thought a great deal about this topic, for both plants and animals. With the animals, and I think of dogs when I say this, the current estimate is between 15,000 - 40, 000 years worth of selective breeding. There's a lot to appreciate, and marvel at, with what we've achieved in terms...

I grew Badda Nera last year too @Blue-Jay and had the same results, poor. It was also really, really late. Way too late for my climate but like your plants, my vines were huge, vigorous and healthy. Just not much seeds. I'm letting it go for that reason.

Yes, that's why. The Canada postal system (and probably many European countries as well) are no longer able mail parcels into the US, because the new tariff system requires a 3rd party. The only role the post office plays now in mailing parcels to the US is as a drop off point. Before these...

I'm not sure if you've heard yet @Blue-Jay but there is - possibly - some good news on the horizon for bean shipments. The friend who helped me get my package to you received an email today from the Zonos team (the App I had to use to deal with the new tariffs and shipping rules to the U.S.)...

I agree, that bean is staggeringly pretty. I need to start vacationing in Latvia if this is what their beans are like!

I'm envious of these great prices! I do find the cost of sweet peas here astronomical if you aren't buying them off racks at the hardware store. I near fell over last night when I saw these - https://sowlocalseeds.ca/products/esme-rowena-sweet-pea-seeds-50 And there is a tomato offered that...

    A Seed Saver's Garden

Yes, sweet peas have always done well for me. ☺️ My thought about Queen Anne's Lace wasn't to grow it, it was the fact that I want to try and plant some carrots for seeds and the carrot plant flowers can get cross contaminated by the flowers from the Queen Anne's Lace. That plant (weed) was...

    A Seed Saver's Garden

Been seed shopping a lot in the last week, good times. I've come to the conclusion that my seed purchases for any given year are all whim based. I find myself ordering things that had not even crossed my mind to grow, until I saw the photo on a website. Melons for instance. And tonight, I...

This is incredible @Alasgun, you've literally perfected the art of home storage for carrots. This is an enormous help!! I'm glad to know that it is somewhat of a complex science to get it right and prevent the roots rotting, because I was feeling like quite the failure to throw out so many...

    A Seed Saver's Garden

Wow, thank you so much for this info @Alasgun. I had no idea that perforated bags were important, I definitely did not do that with my carrots. This is fabulous info, 32 degrees with high humidity. I'm guessing that its working well for you with the fridges means that air movement is not...
