Bird netting secured to metal fence posts has kept everything out of mine. Do you see the cats often? How about a sling shot, or are they considered a zoned weapon now days? My dad used them on rabbits when we were kids.

Great photo @rebbetzin ! Lucky your dog is owl-proof! I have only seen the Snowy Owl. I hear the Great Horned Owl often but have never seen one, but you sure know it when they catch a rabbit!

After several years of our annual perennial trading party, we had to ask people not to bring any more orange daylilies. There would be bags and pots full of them and no one would take them. You would think, out of 150-200 gardeners that someone would need them. ;)

I think they are sometimes biennial or short lived perennial. I have had a few overwinter, but mostly re-seed, a lot! Watch for fuzzy round leaf volunteers in Spring. I started some from seed about 10 years ago, love them! @Nyboy , for me, the volunteers start blooming toward the end of...

I had to accept them too @Nyboy. There were thousands of them here when we moved in, pretty much the only flower besides dandelions. I think they are pretty when they bloom in large masses, but then it's ugly real quick. I've always been going to try the flowers on a salad but then forget...

@Smart Red , the astilbe/monarda in the last photo get just a bit of sun in the morning and late evening, but are mostly in shade from the woods to the south. The other astilbe I posted are on east side of the garage, morning sun/afternoon shade. They do very well there. I think they can take...

Thinning it out can help with the mildew problem. Like with phlox, I try to pinch out the shorter shoots that probably won't flower anyway. It opens it up for air circulation and the other stalks grow bigger with larger flowers. If it's a real wet humid year the mildew might just strike anyway...

Glad your berries are doing good this year also. Can I borrow Gypsy for a bit? We have waited so long for the highbush to produce, partially my fault though, for not keeping up on the fertilizer and protecting them from winter grazing deer.
