I haven't heard of African bees taking over an established hive either, although I'm not the one to ask as I am also new to beekeeping! Carol, I've been looking on the internet on how to make your own extractor. I'm not really sure I'd be able to do it and there is one on the Mann Lake site...

Carol, I have two hives. This honey was from just one. I did a split on my strong hive in the spring and the new hive didn't have enough honey to harvest. I'm working on getting my weak one strong. I just received two more deep boxes yesterday and will put one on each hive for more brood.

I had the same problem with my cukes - I didn't think I ever get any. They finally started producing female flowers and I was overrun with them.

Hello my friends! I'm back and thought I'd share some pictures of my garden this year. Things have slowed down for me a bit so I'll be showing up more often. :) My spring garden is done for the season, except for my peppers and okra since they love this stinkin' heat here in the south...

That is a beautiful story, Bay. I lost my Mollie last August and it feels like it was yesterday - she was 15 solid years of pure love and joy to me. I have my two other dogs that I love so much, but my sweet Mollie will always have a special place in my heart. You are so right about them...

I probably have 20 to 25 plants and could have gotten a better harvest, but I didn't fertilize them in the spring before they sprouted. They are now ferned out for the rest of the season.

Planted 5 rows of okra, 36 tomato plants, squash, Kentucky Wonder pole beans, Beurre De Rocquencourt wax beans, lemon cukes, and a pickiling cuke I can't remember the name of right now. I still have about 17 pepper plants that have aphids which I can't seem to get rid of. :rolleyes:

Well, I have to admit I do love living in the south! I'd take the heat and humidity any 'ole day rather than freezing my buns off waiting until June to put something in the ground. Sunny and 80 degrees today! :cool: Sorry, my northern friends. :hugs
