Nice pictures Journey. I saved a bunch of dwarf dahlia tubers from last year's garden. They are just starting to put shoots up now. I love the little dahlias there are so many variations.

Thanks for the advice on how many to get. I want to start small (3-5) and see how I do with them. I imagine the grandchildren will name them, but I am going to try not to! Giving the chickens away is a good way of getting around the problem of cooking a named chicken!

I used three parts peat, one part vermiculite and one of pearlite in the starter mix I made this year. Had pretty good results except with the dahlia seeds. I don't know what went wrong with them! Reordered the seeds today :barnie. This is a new recipe for starter mix that I am trying.

Spring is definitely in the air for us. I mixed up some starter soil yesterday and today will start cantaloupe, acorn squash and dahlia seeds. It's nice to be outside without a muffler, hat, coat, etc. (I am not hardy in cold weather :\ ) Hope you are all getting some sunshine.
