    A Seed Saver's Garden 2021

Beautiful pea grow outs, @heirloomgal ! Glad to see Black Eyed Susan in good hands; my seed is from 2012, and its viability is questionable. Most of my pea grow outs are planted in the rural garden, and they have really suffered from the recent string of wet years. I only have 17 pea varieties...

Some miscellaneous legumes from this year. "Mesa" shelling pea. An afila (leafless) pea, former Vermont Bean "pea of the year" in 2000, when I obtained it from them (and since dropped). Small, very sweet peas borne on 12-16" plants. Has masses of tendrils in place of leaves, so does well in...

    Phaedra's 2021 Garden

I really love that coffee corner... it give coffee the veneration it is due. Coffee as not just a beverage, but a lifestyle. ;) And you've reminded me that I intend to experiment with sprouts from the mung and adzuki I grew this year.

I agree with the previous opinions, that looks like a cowpea. It looks nearly identical to the cowpea "Pink Eye Purple Hull", which I grow (and which is way overdue for replenishment). They even have the same 'wings' on the eye patch. Cow pea "Pink Eye Purple Hull"

(My apologies @flowerbug , I moved this over so as to not derail the humor thread) I've grown Fordhook 242, and really liked the size & flavor. But I lost too many to rot and rodents; so after a couple years of mediocre yields, I never grew it again. That's unfortunate, because they are the...

A Bean Grower, BUYING beans??? I'd rather eat boiled & shredded tree bark than live with that shame. (having said that, I am now on Cosmic Irony watch :hide)

    Garden humor thread..

Not humorous... but when I gardened in San Diego, I found a cross? mutation? in the "King of the Garden" pole lima. Rather than being wide & greenish, these limas were a shorter, thicker, white crowder... very fat, with squared ends.:ep Those seeds grew true, and I grew them for several years...

There may be an easier alternative, since "Holstein" is often cited as being synonymous with "Polecat". More research needed; but if true, "Holstein" is available & would be much easier than trying to purify crossed seed. Still trying to trace back to the original source too, or anyone who might...

How to care for outdoor plants easily?

That's gardening in a nutshell. :thumbsup Although you did post about your outdoor garden on the indoor gardening forum. ;) No worries, we are all friends here, and you will find that all of us wander off-topic from time to time (self included).

A conditional "yes". The earlier you catch a cross, the easier it will be to eliminate it; if that cross went on for years, it could be tough. Considering that for beans, a cross will not be visible in the seeds until the second generation - by which point it has potentially crossed twice. If...

"Beefy beans, beefy beans, beefy beans"... thanks a lot for the ear worm (lol). o_O Interesting videos. Totally aside from the fact that we enjoy shelling by hand - and mostly keep up with that task throughout the summer - such a machine is unnecessary for the small lots we grow for seed...

What are You Eating from the Garden?

More fruity than vegetable... like a sweet pineapple-flavored cherry tomato, with very tiny seeds. Sadly, much of the pineapple flavor was lost in the baking process, but the ground cherries were still sweet. They are much better when ripe & eaten fresh, although I never ate too many at one...

    A Seed Saver's Garden 2021

If you wanted to sterilize soil for seed starting, you could probably do so - without the unpleasant indoor odor - by placing the soil in a used 55 gallon steel drum, and just leaving the drum in the sun over the summer. Provided the drum is a dark color, solar heating should get the soil hot...

And the storage time has an added benefit: any that may not have been fully ripe (hard to tell of course with the husk on) will ripen with time. All of the ground cherries we opened were either ripe, or brown & shriveled. I really don't know why that should have surprised me, given that most...
