My wood chips have been in a big pile since last fall. I take as I need from it. I will definitely remember that! There have been a few times I thought I saw some white stuff and wondered. As soon as the sun dried it out, it would be gone.
Thanks so much for all the info! I'm not in a rush to repair to soil I just felt it was wasted space that I could be using. I didn't feel like building another raised bed. Maybe I could put one of my off the ground raised beds there as i repair the soil.
If you plant chamomile make sure you harvest every flower. If they go to seed it WILL spread and you will be pulling up the seedlings for years after 🤣🤣
I wanted to share how I built my Herb spiral Garden. I plan on building larger one that has a walking path.
Step one plan your space accordingly. I used my Square foot garden template to measure it out.
I mowed the garden as short as I could and then put Cardboard down
Then I laid my first...
I wouldn't mind growing a cover crop for it. I just would like to utilize the area eventually. I had a mobile chicken coop in that area for a short while. I couldn't look locally for manure.
I'll try the barley too!
What can I do to make this area soil healthy to plant in for next year?
I mostly have raised beds but I would like to start planting a few things in ground. What can I do this year to repair for next year. Besides buying a bag of dirt an throwing it on top.
Also don't be like me and plant chamomile in it. 🤣🤣
I was a real big dumb dumb and put chamomile in it two years later I'm still picking plants out and it's wildly growing around the edges LOL I just make sure that I keep up with pruning it back.
The only thing I will say is it was really hard to keep the grass down around it so plan accordingly with either mulch or smooth The Rock's even with weed whacking it's really hard because some of my plants hang down so I have to lift them up.
I'm also planning an even bigger one for the front...
