I think this is the problem.
I thought running a hobby farm for profit would be a wonderful career, and tried it back in 2016 with all the space I could muster in my garden. There is no profit in food. Even high end, organic food. After everyone has taken their piece, you're essentially working...
It definitely was a "WOW!" moment. I normally have to ask him at 3PM when the chickens are practically rioting if he's feeding the chickens or I am. (Since sometimes he decides not to, we put marks up on a dry erase board and he needs 7 to get paid.) He's not really an animal person most of the...
This year has been his year of growth. His schoolwork is polished, he's playing sports, he's helping around the house. I can't say enough about him. <3
One of the hatching eggs hatched in his hand. He's going to start putting aside some of his weekly money for his own flock so it can be all his...
Well, the hay market can't order me any. The hatchery has cut off all special orders until June due to the demand for laying hens. All their focus is on trying to meet demand.
That's okay though! My husband found several breeders of Sebrights locally, so we'll sit down and pick a good one later...
My Sebright eggs came today--but apparently I made a mistake when ordering. I got Buff Orpington eggs. I'll hatch them out anyway and sell them along with the silkie chicks currently marinating in my brooder. My husband said I could ask our local hay market to order me some. He's so good to me.:weee
We're not looking in specific areas beyond state right now. We look in Zillow for houses with at least an acre, less than the value of our current home, but with one more bedroom. Everything is so much cheaper over there! I can definitely deal with that kind of weather. A bit of snow doesn't...
It comes in from the back field behind me. The previous renters had a goat that used to do a fine job of keeping it in check. Now who ever it is moved on and the current people just let it grow. I've gotten it out of my yard but patrol with a pair of pruning sheers every day to snip back any...
@majorcatfish I'm so glad to see you! My husband and I are planning to move to either North Carolina, South Carolina, or Virginia. Since you live in one of those, I was hoping you could let me know what the gardening is like out there.
Although--now that you're here I just realized I can snoop...
We're getting ready for chicks too! In our area people are lining up to buy chicks. The tractor supply can't keep chicks in stock. Seeing as they're going for $10 each mixed breed, I decided to hatch some out. I'll sell them when they're still cute and fluffy. ;-)
And here I am doing everything in my power to get rid of the blackberries in my yard. They do have thorns. They take over everything! Grow everywhere! Perhaps these domesticated sorts will stay where you put them.
It was beautiful in the garden today! My daughter, who has not been getting her required one hour of outdoor time due to the supremely cold weather, went out as soon as the frost left the grass and did not come in until sundown. I suppose she is making sure she stocks up on outdoor time before...
I'm afraid we'd have to replace the entire transmission, the torque converter, and a bunch of other things to fix it. We have two other cars so I'm just going to sell this one for parts if I can.
Well, the cloth will have to wait for another day. My car broke down while I was taking the kids to swim lessons, right in the middle of a 4 lane road! Another lady helped me and the two of us were able to push it into a parking lot safely. Luckily my husband came to help me right away, and we...
