I picked up my granddaughters Friday night and the family dogs. DD and husband are in Spain. We just swapped vehicles because it was easier. Got home at 11:30 PM, unloaded kids, dogs, luggage and we went to bed.
Their dogs are Taco a mini weiner dog and Pepper, a blue Merle half Heeler and...
This morning:
Ewenique——zero! No lambs!
But Ewenique’s daughter, Jet had a single ram lamb last night. He’s a big healthy boy. Granddaughters helped me eat tag him and give him a CDT shot.
Jet took him out on the field with the flock and he kept up and did just fine.
My joy in little things for this past week has been that it got above freezing during the day. This coming week it will be above freezing at night, so no more ice.
While parts of the country and even northern Texas has had snow, ice and sleet, it stayed right above me and I am grateful.
Finished my coffee. Waiting on daylight to go outside, care for sheep and check for any new lambs. It poured rain all afternoon yesterday and last night.
I vote for the conventional spay. I know you are trying to do the best for your precious new friend, but the search is becoming a hardship. Too far away, way too expensive and stressful.
Good point on proper training @ducks4you . An old dog CAN learn new tricks, or any dog at any age. My...
@SPedigrees pardon my laughter at a 30 minute drive to get to the farmers market. For me, a 30 minute drive is my normal. There is a small blinking light community with a dollar store, convenience store, post office and that’s about it, 10 miles away. Anything else is 30-40 minutes in either...
There is a place in Lufkin where I can get 20’ sheep and goat panels, with the 4” holes like my fence wire for under $70 per panel. MUCH better price than Tractor Supply or any of the other farm stores.
As I make permanent improvements around here, I’m going to phase out the cow panels and use...
Peggy and Bennett gave me a partial roll of 4’ welded wire, so I used that this morning to cover the Red River panels as far as it went. It will keep the lambs from crawling under the panels.
When I ran out of that, I used a 25’ roll of 2’ welded wire and that covered the rest up to the...
Hi! Good to see you over here! Being able to grow your own food is a good thing to learn. I’m glad that you are here wanting to learn. This is a friendly bunch of folks and we love to help.
Sheba and Buford love to run and play. Sheba has always been playful. Her favorite is to dive under his belly, biting opposite hind leg, giving him only her butt that’s hard to bite, and jerking his leg out from under him. It is play, but this is how Anatolians attack predators.
Once down...
I’ve watch the storm warnings, it was going to sweep Texas all the way down to Houston but the wind patterns changed and lifted it to just above me. It’s been in the 20’s at night, up to 40’s daytime. The rest of the country has been getting slammed.
Stay safe and keep using your secret stash...
