In a city-size lot, I have been fairly successful in tormenting ants enough to encourage them to move – probably just to a neighbor's yard. Of course, as they go, they may be more vulnerable to natural predators.
I wish that cats were not so tough on ground feeding birds.

The neighborhood Oregon Grape (Berberis aquifolium) has just begun to bloom and serves as my prompt to plant peas and potatoes. The peas are in the ground but the seed potatoes have just a few sprouts. I may go out and dig some holes where they should go in this afternoon since it has stopped...

That is, for tomatoes. The 2nd week of June is the earliest for low temperatures to average above 50f (10C). I never wait that late for transplanting out the tomatoes and usually have them...

Thinking just yesterday how i tolerate the clump of Autumn crocus. The leaves die back having done nothing. Then, the flowers emerge at the very end of the growing season :).
