2025 Little Easy Bean Network - Growers Of The Future Will Be Glad We Saved

I found a video by Travis Parker on YouTube discussing the UC Rio Zape and a few other varieties they are working on Not sure if inserting the video would be okay but I did find it very informative.

Thank you for mentioning that site. I'm almost at my limit for new beans this year but never hurls to drool a bit. Glad @Blue-Jay will be able to help you.

    Concerned About Growing Old?

I remember being able to sleep through the night and oh my do I miss that. Now I'm usually up once or twice to go to the bathroom every night. Same with long trips. Used to be able to drive for hours straight and now it seems like I have to stop at every rest area on the way.

    Concerned About Growing Old?

Pretty much the same here. One town 30 minutes away and another 45 minutes. Little community five miles away has a small grocery store, elementary school, health clinic, hardware store, dollar store, convenience store and two restaurants. Used to have a post office but it's been "temporarily...

2025 Little Easy Bean Network - Growers Of The Future Will Be Glad We Saved

Thank you! Definitely closer but won't be able to make it this year due to an event the same weekend in which my husband is a vendor. :( On the bright side, there's plenty of time to prepare for next year.

I'm envious of those of you attending seed swaps. Our county just did get a seed library established last year and trying to organize a swap, so fingers crossed. I'd really love to attend the one in Berea, Kentucky someday. I'm also participating in a USDA bean trial again this year and one of...

2025 Little Easy Bean Network - Growers Of The Future Will Be Glad We Saved

If those seeds were grown in 2024, the small size could be due to drought. I was sorting through my seed last week and noticed a significant difference in size of one bean in particular compared to previous years.

    Weeding Techniques

Thanks for the heads-up about amaranth. I'm planning to grow it this year and will attempt to remove any seed heads I'm not using. The worst weed I've encountered in the garden has been sorrel. My second garden is in an ideal area as far as the land is level and it's in full sun. However it...

2025 Little Easy Bean Network - Growers Of The Future Will Be Glad We Saved

I had to stop before I could complete my garden expansion last year due to a sprain that I'm still nursing. While I did more than double the size of my second garden, the greenhouse didn't get put up or the permanent fencing either. In a way that has been a good thing because I used an old dog...

2025 Little Easy Bean Network - Growers Of The Future Will Be Glad We Saved

Wow! What an amazing display and what an amazing DH you have! After years of doing flea markets, there's always something that I would have done differently, but since you put this all together in less than a month deserves a big pat on the back.

2025 Little Easy Bean Network - Growers Of The Future Will Be Glad We Saved

Oh my @Blue-Jay! My husband has had issues with AFib and PVCs for the last few years. A second heart attack in 2022 led to a pacemaker. AFib last year led to a plethora of new drugs to control it. It took him a while to bounce back but pretty much able to do just about everything he did before.

2024 Little Easy Bean Network - Growing Heirloom Beans Of Today And Tomorrow

I thought all the shelling was done but then I found two flats on top of my seed starting shelf, so had to take care of them. I think every time frost was looming I'd pick the mature beans and cover the plants and hope for the best and this was one of those harvests. We've been snowed in with...

2024 Little Easy Bean Network - Growing Heirloom Beans Of Today And Tomorrow

Here's the ones I put up late last spring when I started the garden expansion. They were moved from another part of the property and aren't perfect but even with extreme drought they were covered with beans and a couple of cucumber plants I didn't have high hopes for. I have another arch in...

2024 Little Easy Bean Network - Growing Heirloom Beans Of Today And Tomorrow

I have a couple of questions and thought I'd ask here instead of the 2025 thread. I'm hoping to begin sorting my 2024 seed and distributing some to gardening friends both here and online as well as donating a fair amount to our local seed library. I generally try to save enough for two...

Just sent my requests for this year and am giddy with excitement! Excited that some of my previous choices are on the priority list too!

2024 Little Easy Bean Network - Growing Heirloom Beans Of Today And Tomorrow

@Blue-Jay, I have seeds ready to go out to you tomorrow. Would you or anyone else also be interested in seeds originally acquired from the USDA seed bank? One is Bhatmash which was a good producer but took 90 days to flower which is a little too long for my growing season as I was fighting...

2024 Little Easy Bean Network - Growing Heirloom Beans Of Today And Tomorrow

While we haven't had a postal strike, our little post office has been "temporarily closed" for several months pending a new location. A post office eleven miles in the opposite direction I usually travel handles our mail and is only open for a few hours a day so definitely not convenient. To...

2024 Little Easy Bean Network - Growing Heirloom Beans Of Today And Tomorrow

I preordered a catalog a few months ago and I had to smile when I saw Purple Dove listed as it's been mentioned many times here. Adventist Pole bean is on my list as well.

2024 Little Easy Bean Network - Growing Heirloom Beans Of Today And Tomorrow

I always go to the bean section first and have noticed the same. The Baker Creek Whole Seed Catalog (paid version) and online lists more varieties but only a couple that I don't have and which pique my interest. I took an interest in Appalachian beans after realizing our family variety...

2024 Little Easy Bean Network - Growing Heirloom Beans Of Today And Tomorrow

No. I didn't obtain them from the Network but just happened to be a variety I was trying this year. It produced very well this year, so I have plenty.
