I am really starting to hate this weather. The middle of June and the summer clothes are still not out. I am STILL in thermals, a jacket and hat. My toes feel numb and I have a fire going in the wood stove. I hope the peppers and eggplants survive. Everything seems to be in suspended...
Dh and I dug all the shrubs out from in front of the house and put them in the side yard. They were not doing well where they were and they were causing the house to mildew. We went to the garden center the other day and he caught the "bug". We are going back tomorrow for our gardens. We...
I eat my dandelions too. Pick them young, wash and chop. Throw some evoo or bacon fat in a pan, chop chives, garlic and parsley, throw them in cook up a bit then throw in the dandelions. Sometimes I will chop up kelp too and toss that in with it. YUM!!
That is exactly what I was trying to get across.
I have one couple that DH and I work for and they are chemical crazy. They have a spray for EVERYTHING. The funniest part is they also have the biggest bugs and weeds I have ever seen. The more they spray the more resistant everything in...
I'm in the weeds!!!!
I am so far behind on things.....
I do have to say that the beans and squash are coming up in the "hot" garden just fine. I have my fingers crossed that they will continue and not die. My sunchokes were in that garden too and they started poking thru yesterday...
If it were me I would start trimming the stems down. If you see any green they are still wick. If not then they are dead. Start at the top and cut an inch look at it, if it is brown and dry cut another inch. Get the drift? You may be surprized.
Well yesterday was a bust. So TODAY is for me.
There is this one street where I work that started with one client. Well that one client has a BIG mouth. DH and I now do everyone on the streets yard and garden except 2 houses and they are not back yet for the summer. Yesterday, we got a...
Well I am going to have to go with my gut. I am thinking pumpkins and winter squash. Let's see what happens.
Steve, that is ECXACTLY what I said when I read the meter. OY!!
UPDATE:
So here is what I did.
Steve- I dug 6 big holes out and filled them with compost.
Thistle- I planted...
All the seedlings rotted so the other day DH and I were at the greenhouse for one of our clients and he went nuts with the veggie starts. Most of the gardens are planted, 2 more to go. I wish it would stop raining.
NO SYMPATHY from me!!!!!
It is a week away from June and I am still in thermals and wool socks. There is still smoke coming out of chimneys as I drive down the street. Haven't seen the sun in weeks. It did get bright grey over the weekend though. So if you would care to send some warmth up...
It is awful. I am a gardener by trade right now and weeding and mulch is even hard, I don't want to touch any plants when they are wet but I have to work between rain drops or gardens don't get done and I don't get paid. If it is not raining the fog and onshore breeze just about chills me to...
Hi All,
Just a quick update before the rains start again......
The garden tour has started a blog http://sptkitlibrarytour2011.blogspot.com/
Which I hope to contribute to when I figure out how to add to it.
I am still waiting for the ground to dry out long enough to plant. I have one garden...
