    Smart? Not so much, yet.

No, @thistlebloom , we true cave dwellers have no phone and no idea how to call or text in any manner! :p I'm pretty sure I could afford a phone, but I can't justify the monthly expense, at least for the amount I would use one. And I'm too busy to learn how to use it anyway. When I retire...

    Slender as a Thread

Are you able to swim, @digitS' ? Not outdoors, of course, but at some local facility? It seems like that would be a nice gentle activity, but it really burns calories. I used to love swimming, but after a while the chlorine bothered my skin, and I swear the local college keeps their pool at 33...

2015 Little Easy Bean Network - Old Beans Should Never Die !

Thanks @marshallsmyth , for all the background information and advice on the cranberry outcross. It looks like I will have plenty of bean experiments for next year! :) I still have a lot of seeds from the mix you sent me too. There was a "#5" experiment, but it did not germinate. And yes, By...

    Young People must do This!

Huh? Is this a TV or movie reference? Or do I just not get it? I did actually tackle a couple tasks I'd been putting off, by just getting started, although I didn't finish, of course.

    Young People must do This!

I enjoyed reading about procrastination. I'd like to stay and chat, but now I feel I must get started....., so off I go!

    Talk About Processed Food

@Smart Red , did they ever serve those "super buns"? A big wad of pre-packaged chemical white dough, with a heavy sugar glaze. I know some of these kids don't get any other food, and a hunk of sugar dough is better than starving to death, but I am glad teachers are fighting to get them a...

    Talk About Processed Food

They served those for breakfast at our school, until the teachers complained. Healthier choices are being added, but things are slow to change.

    Blacking Out

Oh,nice, I'd love a cart full of bulbs! We had some bulbs on the south side of our house, but when we had a basement put it, they all had to go. DH did try to save some by relocating them to a holding bed with his tractor. Some didn't make it, and we haven't got around to relocating the...

2015 Little Easy Bean Network - Old Beans Should Never Die !

Yes, @Bluejay77 , I would call the Shoshone bean a half-runner. I appreciate the offer of true Shoshone, but I have so many beans to try out that I'm not sure I can squeeze in any more!

2015 Little Easy Bean Network - Old Beans Should Never Die !

I have no name for the numbered beans (and I'm not familiar with Shoshone, which is perhaps what I have). Marshall sent me a mixed up bag of crossed beans to try. They were not very productive, which could have been a climate difference, or it could have been because I put them in a newly...

2015 Little Easy Bean Network - Old Beans Should Never Die !

I planted the true red cranberry outcross, and got all kinds of cool results: I sorted them into 6 different types. So now do I plant each type and see if any breed true? Do the results from an outcross have some kind of technical name? This is all new territory to me!

2015 Little Easy Bean Network - Old Beans Should Never Die !

My post went before I was finished, so I'll continue here: I planted this: And got this: Here's the Buxton Buckshot: "By God" did well: And I got an outcross in my cannellini beans this year:

@marshallsmyth , I've been meaning to post resulting photos of some of the beans you sent! The Buxton Buckshot did okay. Not great, but plenty of seed to share. I tried some from the mixed envelope you sent me: I planted this: And got this:

How I Arrived in the PNW

She won the biggest loser contest. It looks like there is a man and woman in the other car. Perhaps the woman did not lose enough weight to qualify for the parade, or maybe they are just supplying the coffee and donuts for afterwards.

It seems like lots of people give those truffles to teachers around Christmas time. Unfortunately, I don't like them, althought I appreciate the thought. I like my chocolate dark, especially the Lindt dark chocolate bars with sea salt or with hot pepper.... But the fact that you love the...

    Surprise, surprise !

I work in a school system, so I know someone named Phnx. My real name is Robin, but after my grandmother had a stroke, she called me Arson. One sister became Aristotle, but I think Alison remained Alison. I guess she could recall the "A " best.

She got me a Sumac start.

I missed thin sumac thread as well. There is a bunch growing down the road, but I never harvested any because I didn't know which varieties are called "poison sumac". It is exciting to see the sumac recipes. I get it at the natural food store, but the only way I've used it is on za'atar...

    HOOP COOP

Great coop! I love my hoop coop too, but I admit I had no hand in building it. :\ DH can build anything. When I occasionally take on a building project myself, I do love the sense of accomplishment it gives me (even with all the flaws!).
