    Corn Thread for 2014

Enough for 300 plants, last year it was available for the first time here but sadly the one place with it was selling it 30 seeds for $4.95 and to be honest they ripped me off on almost every pack most had 20 or 25 when they specified 30 (not up to 30 or approx 30) I managed to get enough to...

I tend to prefer paper if the seed has been recently shelled as it may not be fully dry and can sweat in the plastic bags where as the paper tends to breathe.

    Another Weed Not Watermelon

Your on the money. Small yellow flowers are a good way to rule out Squash or Gourds and with non dissected leaves means it is in the genus Cucumis not Citrullus that watermelons belong to, in this case the fruit and leaves tell us it is not Cucumis sativus the species cucumber belongs to but...

La Madera Squash, from the Mountains of New Mexico

@Jared77 I have thought about sending some seeds to suitable places in the USA, I'm in the process of trying to grow out and hand pollinate for a decent quantity of pure seed for each of my rare Australian squash. I also have to check some for stability which is time consuming.

    They're Baaack, fresh Peas!

Shame he does not have some spare cement as he could make a nice wall with that many, at least I might. How do you go with mildew on the peas?

    They're Baaack, fresh Peas!

I'd take that over my heavy red clay, I'd just spend months sifting soil is all.

@digitS' did you direct sow your peas? The soil among the stones looks good.

    French Beans!

Prairie Garden seeds are worthy of your money :) Triumph de Farcy, Fin de Bagnols and Comtesse de Chambord are also listed and good. Do you normally save bean seed or just buy it each season?

    French Beans!

DigitS, France has a wealth of snap beans and they have so many old and new cultivars it would boggle your mind and this is how in part they picked up the name French beans as England did import many cultivars hence the origin got woven into the name. (They also did steal some cultivars from the...

La Madera Squash, from the Mountains of New Mexico

I think it would be worth while as I don't see much squash breeding going on for home gardeners, especially with their needs in mind like in your situation something fast but not sacrificing eating or keeping quality. Clean and dry those seeds pretty please :) I really like that big heart...

    whoa, big surprise!

They should be fine to eat, one of the folks I exchange gardening advice with has grown them the same size as a rugby ball and they were still as delicious as the "regular" size ones. I think you might want to keep growing sweet potatoes at this rate :)

La Madera Squash, from the Mountains of New Mexico

I'd certainly like to pursue the stabilizing of a cross between La Madera and Buttercup, selecting for earliness, flesh quality, small seed cavity so thicker flesh and also keeping quality. I could quite likely select something specifically for your conditions giving you something unique and...
