Wow, the "berries" look brown - that's interesting! The sumac in our yard grows about 15' and has red berries, which the birds love - esp at the end of winter.
Odd but true: the other day, a hummingbird was checking out the red sumac clusters!
Does the 1,000th member get a prize? Something wild? Something wacky? Or just tacky?
All kidding aside, this is such a terrific place to read up and ask Q's or just share the ups and downs of gardening. Thanks! :bouquet
Where have you been all my life?!
Thanks, Punkin! This was on my wish list, to get going with this site - I love it! Good luck setting out the broc & cauli. Now, if the monster mosquitoes will let me, I'm going to harvest more little broc offshoots - only have time for one crop of plants, but they keep producing small side...
Backintime, I know I'm answering your post late, but I just joined TEG tonight...we also use the deep litter method for our chickens (before I read BYC, I just thought it was my "lazy litter" method!) and find it makes lovely compost and it does eventually all break down. I let it set in a pile...
One of the unintentional effects of having cats is that bunnies are on their hit list. They are so vigilant that we have no rabbit problem whatsoever, even before we fenced in our veggie garden (mainly to keep out our over-zealous chickens). I don't want to gross out any rabbit lovers out there...
Pat, thanks for the great laugh, about using dynamite to slow down aggressive herbs......how I regret my earlier naive planting of mint...well, at least it's not as bad as goutweed.
We use our prolific lemon balm in anything we want a gentle lemony flavor: salad, chicken & veggie stir-fry, or added to a cup of regular tea while steeping.
After harvesting the tan coriander seeds, and drying them in bunches, what next? How is it ground at some point into powder? We accidentally grew TONS of it, which had self-seeded...how long will it store well?
What gorgeous spuds!:clap Isn't it super exciting digging for potatoes (especially bright ones, like reds) - they're like jewels in the dark dirt. And the flavor is so much better than anything from the store.
We store ours in boxes or used feed bags in the basement, trying to keep some as long...
Hi everybody!
What a cool site, and yes, I just hopped over here from BYC for the first time. My user name (originally it was cheep cheep) won't make much sense here, except that we're always trying to live frugally (maybe my TEG name should be cheap cheap?!)
What did I plant today? I planted...
