Yep. it "should" be monsoon season, but right now our wet spell appears to be exactly one day! At least the temps (and the wind) are moderating to more normal levels. Gotta start somewhere, right? For now, though, I'm off to :watering
The drought isn't over by any means, but we got almost an inch of rain Monday night! Which was enough to make me feel comfortable that I could mow the dry weeds in my pasture without setting the world on fire. :)
And this morning, I have bean sprouts unfolding!
Had a record setting day yesterday. Got to 109 which is a new all-time high. :hide Rain is approaching an all time low. The weather guy didn't say what that is, but we've had .68 since Jan 1st.
On the bright side, I have flowers on my tomatoes! The eggplant is still alive, the squash...
Yeah, I'm getting chewed up, too. We have a mud puddle, umm, pardon me, lake about 1/2 mile from the house and I guess that's where they're coming from.
Really do not want to see my water bill this month. I'm just trying to keep the existing trees and bushes alive. My horses aren't...
...is once you get the weeds pulled, they STAY pulled!
OK, maybe I'm trying too hard to keep a positive outlook. Temps are over 100 and no rain is in the forseeable future, gotta find something to be happy about. :happy_flower
I'm empathizing with everyone this morning as I watch the neighbors Great Pyrenese waltz around the neighborhood! I was so happy when the old neighbors left and their feral cat buffet closed, now I'm wondering.
The new neighbors are a sweet young couple that collect critters, it seems.. Their...
Not a dracaena expert by any stretch, but the palmy looking one looks like the marginata that my sister has. May find out that she's wrong about it's name, though! Have no idea what the other is.
I feel for everybody up to their knees in mud, I really do, but I'd almost sell my soul for some rain. Since the 1st of the year, we've had less than 1/2" and the winds have been horrid.
I'd had wonderful plans for the garden this year, but between the weather and some icky life things, I have...
Unless you live in the middle of a lilac forest! I've got probably 200' of OLD lilac hedges ringing the house. On a good year, I swear I'm living in a bar of Yardley soap. Good thing that I really like the smell of lilacs. :rose
It looks like what ranchers around here refer to as mustard weed...nothing seems to think it's tasty! I really don't know what it's proper name is, I'm just grateful that it goes away early in the season. It plays havoc with my sinuses. On the other hand, it's usually the first hint of green...
Welcome from another Panhandle gardener!
I'm probably not much help on composting, I tend to just pile up the compostables, soak 'em down and tarp the pile for awhile. Nooww, if I had a trailer that could be dedicated, I might become more dedicated too. :hu
Last year was the first time I tried growing broccoli. It was starting to bolt about the time the bugs found it, so at least I didn"t have extra protien! Hopefully it will be the same this year.
Just wanted to comment on what tough little plants they are. Right after I got mine into the...
We don't have many moles in the Panhandle, but we've got pocket gophers...same aggravation, diffeent Latin name.
One year I was sitting on my deck enjoying the view of some freshly planted phlox when I noticed one was wiggling. And then it disappeared. :ep One of those darned gophers jusr...
I feel your pain, luvsdirt. Our winds got up to around 50 for a while yesterday...40+ the day before. We get today off, but tomorrow it's supposed to blow again. :somad
And about those windbreaks, houses and large horse trailers work well. Anything else, not so much...unless you have the...
:welcome
Some plants, like lettuce, spinach and broccoli, really prefer cooler weather. My climate is really different than yours, but about the only way I can grow lettuce is to plant it in the fall and let it sprout when it's ready in the spring. We are looking at our first week of nights...
I'm far from being an expert on broccoli, but the seedlings I bought last year and the ones I started this year, have both been pretty floppy until they got a really good root system. Then they've developed straighter and stronger stems.
