My Granddaughter's birthday is today. She told Phil that she is older than him, and therefore what she says goes. My advice to Phil is... don't argue with Big Sister. :smack
Welcome from Wisconsin! Lived & gardened in San Jose (3 years) and San Diego (13 years) in the 80's - 90's. Moved in time to dodge big earthquakes in both locations. I miss the 4-season gardening.
That's about the coldest I can remember it getting here. Which if I recall, was just after the Arbor Day Foundation (and several others) had put out new climate maps claiming my winter hardiness zone had gotten warmer. The witch of winter does not suffer fools gladly.
This extended...
She grew one kind exclusively - those gifted to her by our daughters & myself. Sometimes one given to her wilting & half-dead by a friend, which she would then nurse back to health. As you probably noticed from the photos, color was not an issue; she cherished them all, and planted them in...
My DW always planted those outside in one of her flower beds. They've proven to be surprisingly winter hardy; I've only lost a couple over the years. If anything, given a little care (I cut them back in Spring & late Summer) they have gradually become more vigorous.
Agreed. The widespread corruption of publicly funded breeding by industry, and the patenting of those 'products' by Big Ag, often runs contrary to the public interest. Those cultivars are often protected by highly restrictive patents, which prohibit seed saving - and even possession of plants or...
No sun here, but daytime temps in the low 30's now. Enough sun got through to penetrate the ice & melt it where it touches the concrete, so I was able to break loose & shovel all remaining ice in my driveway Did the same for some of the sidewalks at church, so people won't end up on their backs...
Me too; I'm intensely craving chocolate, donuts, and fat-rich foods. Winter cold always affects me that way. I try to limit myself, but the same Winter cold seems to compromise my ability to count accurately.
They get into my basement once in awhile. This year I had some hot pepper plants that I had pulled out whole. When the unheated patio got too cold, I moved them to a tub in the basement. Last week, I happened to peek at them while downstairs - and half of the peppers were gone! :ep Looking more...
At night, when the house is quiet, I sometimes hear a little rustling from the kitchen. That really alarmed me at first, as I thought mice might have gotten in.
Nope - it was birds. DW had mounted steel mesh outside over the exhaust vent, because she thought (perhaps rightly) that birds might...
I love digitalis too. Didn't realize they were biennial when I bought them - so mourned when they died. But 4 healthy seedlings popped up last year, so I'm looking forward to a good show. I've got to plant another clump in the off year, so they (hopefully) alternate continuously.
Peonies...
Hmmm... our gardening subconscious at work? Planting tiny yeast/seeds, kneading flour/soil, and getting to watch both get taller if all goes well. Do both at once, make an herb bread - loaves & leaves.
Memories..., I just talked myself into baking bread tomorrow. With the house all...
Haven't seen the site; but will payments be changing hands via the site? If so, that 's' will be important... not many would enter payment info without the safety of a secure site.
