    Rosebush rehab?

    Dog poop flower quandry

It isn't overwhelmng, I just wanted some help (so if I'm back there and the wind changes, I don't get an unfortuante whiff). I think it might be to hot/dry here in the high desert for lillies...yes? I've not heard of anyone growing them successfully outside (unless it was in a pond).

    Dog poop flower quandry

We recently fenced off our patio to allow the chickens to free range in the mornings without pooping all over our back porch. The good news: no more chicken poo. The bad news, now the dogs sometimes poop under the tree to the side of the porch (if the gate is shut for the chickens. You don't...

    Gnats in my compost

Hi! I have gnats in my compost (in a tumbling, sealed composter). It seems very wet, so I just dumped a bunch of chickenpoo/straw in. That should help, yes?

    Container strawberries

I planted strawberries two years ago in large containers. They grew kind of so-so, lots of runners, minimal tasty (but UGLY!) tiny strawberries. Last year, same thing. This year I was going to give up (we hate wating water on things that don't yield here in the desert!), but they have already...

    MY hot Compost Pile!

Careful with those weeds, though. Sometimes they don't burn all the way down and they use your compost as a way to sneak back into your garden. Brilliant system, but frustrating!

    Rosebush rehab?

That is good news! Instead of rose food, could I spread a thick layer of compost and then mulch? Trying not to use any chemicals.... Thanks Hattie- great getting advice form The Rose Queen!:weight

Wel, thanks to you wonderful fanatics the infamous rosebushes that will not die in my front yard have been carefully pruned and even watered. Now what?!;) Half of the leaves look slightly reddened, if that helps guide your advice....

    Bliss

The raised beds are completed, and yesterday I spent the day with my wheelbarrel mixing what I hope is the perfect blend of compost, peat, and vermiculite. Then this afternoon it started raining ( a big deal in the desert-it rarely rains for more than 15minutes). Hours later, it is still coming...

    First Time Square Foot Gardening

I started my raised bed last year, and had amazing success. We've now built two more, and there has been talk about maybe just one more..... Tomatoes, herbs, lettuce, radishes, spinach have so far been my successes. I actually planted up to 4 tomato plants per square last year, and they actually...

    Apparently...eggplant seedlings don't like....

I read this last night, having just commented to my DH how great the eggplant seedlings were doing. Today while sleeping (I work nights), I had a nightmare that my plants ended up doing what you just described. AAaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!:barnie This, me thinks, is the first time I have experienced...
