My cauliflower sprouted in only 5 days, and was growing just fine, but then got a white fungus-y growth and keeled over. :hit
So I am replanting (a lot of things) and would like to know how to avoid this in the future. I have them in the little seed incubator thing, south facing window...
Checked the thermometer this afternoon-inside the cover it was 70 degrees, and DH just checked (about midnite 30 here), and the inside temp was 40 degrees. Should be ok, don't ya think?
We changed out the cover in our SFG (to the thick clear plastic used for winter crops) just to see how the temps ran. After checking the temps and average sunshine, I decided to give this cool weather crop thing a try and directly sowed into our planter. This morning (well, yesterday...
In answer to my own question....;)
turns out here in NM we have the opposite problem-our soil is actually alkaline (someone lied to me!). So into the compost the limes and oranges go!!!
Happiest of Valentine's Day to all you wonderful folks. I'm not usually a huge fan of the holiday , as i think it is a capitalistic scam for genetically engeneered flowers and overpriced food and gifts. I'm not a fan of someone telling me when and how I'm to express my love.:/
But, as eluded to...
Here are some pics, as promised. I haven't figured out how to rotate the pics-sorry for the having to head tilt...:(
This is the total unit;
And this is the base. You turn it by hand-see the litte wheels it rotates on? The tea collects in this base ( it drains out of the round part when...
Good idea. I don't think I have watered them enough. Maybe after the frost I will get out the root waterer thingie (completely technical name, I am sure!:/), and give them a good soak.
You sure do know a lot about New Mexico, digitS!:)
(...come to think of it, you know a lot about...
Still a relative noob, so no grow lights yet. My set up is a heating pad under a south facing window. We do get a good bit of sunshine here in The Land of Enchantment, and I am hoping that this is enough to discourage the dreaded leggies. The cauliflower I planted said 8-14 days to sprout, and...
We have a small bush, and each year it blooms and gives my favorite flower...but only for about a week. Is there anything I can do to prolong/increase the amount of blooms on these delightful little bushes?
Starting some more of my seeds this weekend (yay!), but am afraid of the dreaded leggies. I've read that for my 'maters this is not so bad, as I will plant them sideways anyway for good roots. But what about other stuff? What if the weather doesn't cooperate-is there something that one can do to...
:)
I am composting our chicken poo (along with our other "stuff"), so a little sprinkling of this black gold on top should do the trick. I'll stir things up a little for the peppers.
Thanks!!:frow
I don't. they are in the spare room, with a south facing window. I was planning on leaving them in there for a while, then hardening them off when it gets closer to planting.
