Sallie Holmes would be a good choice, I think. I planted 2 a couple of months ago (got them from Jackson Perkins) and they are growing and blooming like crazy.

Beautiful garden and vegs. Thank you for posting pictures.... I am envious that you have tomatos now....mine are green. What kind of a dog is in the background with the flower?

I picked kentucky pole beans, broccoli, carrots, basil, parsley, squash and rosemary, steamed it up, added pasta and made an incredible dinner. Just love the fresh veggies.

Hi Silkie,
Great. Then I am in for a whole lot of taters. I am excited to see if they taste any different from store bought. I bet they will, I just have never had the opportunity until now. Can't wait.

Hi Tutter,
We have been out of smoke for the last week or so. Thank Goodness.
The soil/compost we got from the dump. Pretty rich I think as the corn and sunflowers are going great. Another pic below. I am embarassed to admit I have not fed anything yet. I have miracle grow and usually I use...
I am a potato newbie and planted red and blue several months ago. The foliage has doubled from the picture below, and has some violet flowers. The plants is also taking over the area. Next year I will give them more room, but meanwhile, can I cut them back without damage to the potatos...
Hi again fletamae,
Great information on storing the potatos. Since I have straw for my chickens, I now just need a hole. Well, and the potatos of course when they are ready. Thank you. I will enjoy them even more now.

This one makes 2 loaves and freezes very well. I think the "secret" ingredient is using the freshest eggs you can find........make a friend who has chickens. I use my ribbed zucchini which is firmer than other varieties. I am enjoying receipes where I can add as many ingredients that I can grow...
Hi everyone,
I am a potato newby having planted my first "crop" just a few weeks ago. I am thrilled that I have over a foot of green growth in the now designated potato patch. Bright green and flourshing growth....very exciting. I planted red and blue seed potatos from my feed store...
Hi Tutter,

I am in Northern California and planted corn about 10 days ago.....I put it on drip and the little plants are now about 3 inches tall. I say, plant....see what happens, then you will know....good luck

Last year I had an incredible crop of tomatos and had a hard time keeping up with the picking, preparing, skinning, cooking, and canning my tomato sauce. So, a friend gave me this shortcut that I plan on using this year as well. I thought I would pass it along. Many of you probably already do...
Hi,
I make blackberry jam every year and it is really easy. I use the receipe found on the directions inside the boxes of pectin...I use Ball Fruit Pectin.
Basically all you need is the fruit, pectin, sugar, jars, lids and a big pot on the stove.
I use a pressure cooker for the canning, as I...
Hi Tutter,
We are using yards and yards of recycled/composted planting soil from a local source in this particular garden area. I have some roses and herbs planted in this soil in wine barrels that are doing great. Sunflowers direct sow that are growing like crazy. I don't know how else to...
