    Self Sustaining Gardening

This is an awesome thread y'all! I keep a notebook for gardening notes and I filled 2 pages from this thread today! Oakland~ your container setups rock! I don't have tons of sun so therefore pretty much container garden everything. I have never grown corn because of the room it takes. Now, I...

    Just getting started

A neighbor gave me 2 of those pools and that is what I'm using too! Although not the array you have in yours. One has bush beans and the other has lima beans. Everything else I'm growing went in other containers. My original thought was to cut the whole bottom out of one and flip it on top of...

    Texas

Howdy Y'all! I'm in Arlington- smack dab in the middle of Dallas and Fort Worth. I don't have many sunny spots to plant things in the ground, but I have quite a collection of things in pots. :)

    Stevia

I have stevia too. I have it in a pot and have wintered it for the past 2 years in a window sill. I got mine as a plant from Whole Foods but just this year I have seen packets of seeds for the first time. I almost bought some to grow more and I probably still should. I have had no luck with it...

    Rosemary

Really?! I have 2 good friends with ENORMOUS rosemary bushes in front of their house. I'll have to share this tidbit of knowledge with them. They will get a kick out of it I'm sure. I'll be paying them a visit as soon as I finish replacing the boxwoods out front with rosemary. :lau

    Lemon balm

I have some lemon balm planted and it seems to come up in clumps rather than a viney type spread so it is easier to control IMO than most mints. When I got it I was told the same thing that it would repel mosquitos- nope.

Anyone now how to grow an avocado tree?

I have never had one make it past 3' tall and I don't know exactly why that is but I can tell you how to get one that far at least. To sprout the seed, hold it small end up like an egg. Poke a toothpick in each side about half way down at a slight upwards angle. Place the seed in a clear glass...
