Shiro plums--what am I doing wrong?

So far I have planted and then replanted 3 times. Not one of them has so much as grown a leaf. I planted the first one in 2007, it's replacement in the spring of 2008, and the second replacement in December, 2008. Nada. At the same time I planted that first Shiro, I also planted a Santa Rosa...

What did you can (freeze, dehydrate, preserve) today?

Today was 8 half-pints of sweet pickle relish and 12 pints of hamburger dill chips. LOLOL I've only got 8 feet of cucumber trellis this year and have picked about 30 pounds of cukes so far. Those guys better call it quits soon--I'm about out of Mrs. Wages! :D

    What did you pick today?

I picked a whole basket-load of cukes today and they'll be on the supper table tonight as part of my "world famous" ;) cucumber salad. Never any leftovers when I make that and some nice fresh Italian bread.

Can I move strawberry "mother" plants?

Well, I did it! I found all of 14 plants under all that grass, dug 'em up and stuck them in a bucket with water. I will pot them tomorrow. Then time will tell. Maybe if I can get that bed back into some kind of shape I can replant them back there in very early fall. Or I'll overwinter them...

Anyone from So Fl have luck with planting a garden???

I use Garden Safe Insecticidal Soap from Schultz that I get at WalMart or one of the 3-in-1 products that hit bugs and diseases. I hand-pick the tomato worms whenever possible--but that is in addition to spraying and not instead of it. I check for buggies and disease morning and evening...

Anyone from So Fl have luck with planting a garden???

Depending on how the winter is going, sometimes I start in early February. If it is a chilly winter, I skip until the fall garden, which I put in in late August or early September. I normally plant cucumbers, tomatoes and corn. I have a well, so I water regularly (every other day for sure...

Anyone from So Fl have luck with planting a garden???

Most years I plant tomatoes with really good results. The key is to plant a VERY early spring garden or a VERY late fall one. I spray a lot with insecticidal soap as needed, keep them staked, and I feed with really well-aged manure made into manure tea. My little corner is probably more manure...

Can I move strawberry "mother" plants?

Last fall I REALLY goofed. I put 30 wheelbarrow loads of fresh manure in my garden and covered it with hay. This spring I tilled it all in and planted 50 strawberry plants. Ho-boy! Was that a mistake! The bermudagrass from the manure and the bahiagrass from the hay are taking over the...
