Welcome RCL! I have passed through Newton (as in Newton-Conover exit on I-40) I think. I wish I had a 1/2 acre to plant!

I buy tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers in varieties specifically for containers. I have all of them in 5 gallon buckets and they do fine. But I water them 2x a day and they all have drip buckets.

My Select Seeds order came today. I can't wait to start the Stock. They also sent me a free pack of Cleome 'color fountains' I have never grown Cleome before.

I never thought about recording all that other stuff. We move around so much I don't think I will start that yet.

I am keeping a garden log this year-name, year from, source, date planted, date sprouted, % sprouted, date transplanted, 1st harvest. Does anybody do the same? Or is nobody as OCD as me? :ya

I think just more of a variety and you can get your seeds sooner than in the stores. I do both. I buy common varieties cheaper at stores and order special varieties.
