I planted this way for over 20 years. I used the back of my house next to the building itself. It was about 3 feet by maybe 30 on two sides.
I planted many tomatoes and peppers and zukes, eggplant and many others. I could get over 6 tomato plants in a 2X2 square. I never had a loss in...
Hi LisaJean,
I bought a tiller a few years ago and I love it! It sure beats digging the whole garden.
I found some "things" growing in my compost yesterday and dug it up, I cannot see what it is yet but I planted it.
After all is said and done, i just toss the old seeds (more than ususal) in the pots and hop for the best. If they grow fine if not I do it again with fresh ones. I am surprised how often I get good planted from old seeds and that is a bonus.

Me too, I love flowers but they do nothing for me in the "getting something out of them" department. If I can grow melons or cukes up a vine and get veggies out of them why not, they have very pretty, allbeit small, flowers and that is good enough for me.
Also I need extra veggies this year...
You can make compost tea and that only takes about 3-4 days.
Get a bucket of water and put some poo in it and stir every day for the 3-4 days, you can either use a watering can or sprayer and spray away hitting the whole plant, but I would not spray the whole plant if it has fruit or veg on it...
Home dried tomatoes are the best! I do it in the oven if I have allot, but the Popeil dehydrater is great I use it for apples and other fruit as well, the only problem is that the fruit gets eaten before I can put it away.
I never noticed any rise in my electric bill they run on very little elec.
Thanks Steve,
but I don't think that is it, it is not a dwarf and I am pretty sure it has regular sized tomatoes not cherry. I am hoping it is open pollination so I can grow them indoors all winter under lights.
I might just call the Philly market and get a list of vendors so I can call and...
This is easy or you can use a q-tip like I usually do, I haven't had tomaotes in my house before but am aware of this need. I Pollinate my zucchinis all the time when I start loosing some, just to make sure they are fruitful.
That is becaue you probably moved them somehow or a breeze blew from...
When I went to the Philly flower show I purchased a tomato plant. I am sorry but I do not rememer the name and I tossed out the paper work. Didn't think it would really grow.
It is growing in my garden window and it has flowers on it that are about to bloom. I hope this is a pure strain so I...
Anything, if the conditions are right...
If you simulate the outside with grow lights an warmth you can grow anything.
Look for my post on indoor tomato...

That is a great idea, they do that in Longwood Gardens, they hang all sorts of melons and they run it up and over like a grape trellis. when the fruit or veg gets too heavey they make a sort of bag to hold them and tie that to the structure, it was amazing.
I am going to try my small melons on...
It is hard to see but this is a trellis I made, I like it because I can put them around anywhere the house where the sun is and does not take up much space. Looks pretty to when all covered with leaves. I do this for other things also and lean against my shed etc.
Works for me...:tools
You actually grow Rosemary by cuttings. Make a fresh cut and either dipit in rootone and plant it in a small pot or you can take a cutting and place in a glass of water to grow roots.
Dose that help?
I have a lot of them stored and will be using it once I run out of my peat pots, I like them too.
It is the same principle as the rolled up newspaper, you cut paper the length about 3 " and roll around something like a tomato paste can and turn under the bottom paper and you have an item like...
I am trying artichokes just for fun
Brussel Sprouts
yellow peppers
zucchini bush
planted zucchini vine first time tryng that one.
I bought a Mexican tomato from the plant fair in Philly and it is grwoing so well it is cold tolerent so I can plant it now but don't want to chance it.
more tomorrow
patandchickens that is a great idea, in the woods behind my house I have lots of tall wild grasses that are now totally dry. I have been gathering it up and cutting it up a bit and tossing it in the run and it is good for keeping their feet a bit dryer. they like to play in it also.
I have to...
I went to a hydroponics store to find some fancy lighting fixtures etc, they didn't have any here is what she told me to do:
Go to lowes or home depot and buy a couple of shop lights (I got a few for $8.53 each others were more you have to look.) She then told me to get one regular flourescent...
Actually all you wouold have to do is put a layer of two of cloth or something in between and the heat wou;d be much less. Then it would work, remember it is for a dog initially and it is compatible with cloth.
Myself I use grow lights and do not need an underpad, my seeds germinated in record...
