Might have been used as the graft tree?

We are tilling & planting this weekend as it is in the 80's all of a sudden this past week. Last yr my zuchinni did so well I did not buy any potatoes all summer long we just used the zukes instead. Nothing beats the flavor of home grown. I really try to grow mothing but heirloom...
Yes there is a tremendous amount to learn from the soil. We discuss the types of plants they each are & if they really are a fruit of vegie(by the seed method), where they came from & weather or not the pilgrams might have grown them.
I am just curious of how many homeschoolers use the garden as a lesson each yr? If you do how many subjects do you cover with it? I of course use it for science & math, plus a little history too.
Saving seeds from hybrids isn't really recommended as they lose their potency quicker & they also start losing genetic qualities too & do not produce as well. Heirlooms you can save seeds from again & again & never lose quality. The flavor is better in heirlooms too.
I planted spaghetti squash one yr & we did not care too much for it. Luckily there were some people in my church who did & I would take bags of it each week to church for people to take. It was very prolific for me.
I have a massive seed collection that I just keep adding to when I find...
I know they die back, but these were eatten on by the rabbits & I thought they had got them completely. Our winters don't get too cold here a few freezes & then we are okay. We are 80's now & will stay up there & into the 70's for the most part now.
Yesterday I planted 4 rhubarb plants to replace the 2 the rabbits(I think) ate over the winter. When I dug up the hole to replant in I found a root ball & bulb for the rhubarb so I am hoping I get them back as I replanted them. If they all stay then I have 6 rhubarb plants!!!! :th...
With at least 3 hrs of sun these will grow:
Salad greens, such as leaf lettuce, arugula, endive & cress.
broccoli
cauliflower
peas
beets
brussel sprouts
radishes
swiss chard
leafy geens, such as collards, mustard greens, spinach & kale
beans
Hope this helps.
I save them in ziploc baggies & I have a covered plastic shoe box too. I planted seeds from 1999 this yr & got them all up. I keep mine in the freezer & no problems.
I did this for a preschool I used to work at. We started germinating the seeds so the students could see what that was about & then planted them in the garden area, the students helped with that & the watering too. When we started harvesting items we talked aobut the different ways to use the...
