I planted black beans this year, never have before, and I'm wondering when to pick them. They are the kind to dry so do you keep them on the vine to dry or pick them now and let them dry?
So I'm really getting frustrated now with one rabbit eating ALL my green beans, night after night. Can anyone give me a sure way to get rid of a rabbit besides shooting it? Have thought of trapping it but looking for any other method that will work!!!
I use straw around everything and I think it works great. No weeds and I've never had things rot. I think it actually keeps things clean and safe from bugs.
Yep, I'm with ya on the frustration. Went out this morning and all my green beans are gone!! I have my garden fenced in with lattice, but they get right thru the holes. Was trying to keep the garden from my ducks, but seems squirrels and rabbits have other plans!
I planted this way.....I think I read it in the book, "Companion Planting", to put cucumbers with corn so they can use the corn as a trellis. And then radishes next to the cucumbers to take some kind of bug away from the cucumber. We'll see if it all works!
I use fish emulsion too and boy it is nasty. But lately the duck poo water I use from my ducks isn't too lovely either. Should we keep posting about the nastiest garden smells ;-)
I croc garden too, but sometimes if I don't want to get too dirty I wear my rubber boots. I got some really cute ones, lime green, at Target this spring for $20. They are easy on and off too! Yes, funny post!
I have learned from past experience to pot mints, that way it doesn't take over my garden and I have it right by the backdoor where I can pick it quick and it smells good too!
I just realized my ducks are doing the same thing. I have barricaded and fenced just about everything now. I have a great pic from today where they sit on one side of the fence looking in......
I have the same rain frustration. I have, since April, planted some things 3 times now. About the time I get a nice plant coming up, the rain takes it away. Looks dry now for awhile. I plan to plant again today. Good luck to you! It's never too late ;)
