Here is a new favorite of mine, a HENRYI Clematis. It just started blooming yesterday, so exciting! This one is white, but I think I've seen them in other colors. I think its a no brainer clematis....grows in sun or part shade, doesn't require extra watering, seems to take whatever you give...
I lived in Phoenix for years and could hardly garden. Had to learn all those desert plants. Back in Kansas now and I have to say I like this zone!
Good luck with the heat! (I like your statue ;-)
Hey all you mushroom lovers. Go look at my website under the gardening tab and scroll to "Theres Some Fungus Among Us" and you can see a block I recently bought at our farmers market for $2.50, which I think is a GREAT deal. You can get about 3 growths from one block.
Looks like you have had lots of advice but I'll throw in my 2 cents!
I tried for years to start tomatoes and ALWAYS failed, spindly plants, all that. This year I broke down and bought a flourescent light. Just got a cheap hanging lamp and bought a plant tube, about $10 in all. Also used...
My daughter likes dandelion leaves, I think she just steams them. Look at her website, www.lonelilly.com as she just blogged about this and some other wild greens.
What does everyone do to keep squirrels from nibbling and EATING your vegetation? I think I read once to sprinkle cayenne pepper on plants. Anyone tried this? Or give me other ideas, thanks!
I have ducks and have a move around pen. I am keeping it close to my garden and they usually spend quite a bit of time in the mud. They don't seem to go for the green stuff right now, just root around in the mud for bugs and worms. Look on my website to see my set up. I think the pen is...
I am currently obcessed with making trellises out of fallen branches. I have used up all in my yard so now I am cutting willow at a friends farm. Here is a quick pic, but to see the process, look at my website under the GARDENING tab and scroll a bit to MAKIN MORE TRELLISES! They are loads of...
I want to make some too. Just found a book the other day, but I'm sure there are plenty of websites to make them. Good luck everyone! Add that to the THINGS TO DO list.
I added ducks to my backyard, 7 of them. They stay really close to me while I garden because they know I will throw them worms! They are relatively easy and so much fun to watch. You can get an idea of my day to day with them on my website.
After a good rain, I go on a worm "hunt". Those that my ducks don't eat I put into the garden! Especially the ones I find on the concrete. I figure it gives them a new life.
