    Raised bed construction material

Thanks for that! I hadn't thought of the extra heat they would draw...but that would definately come in handy! Might work great to wrap with some plastic and have a mini green house thing going on where you could uncover during the day and cover again in the evening. I had thought about using...

Tell me about hilling potatoes, please

As the plant grows, you pile soil around the plant. The soil that you pile around the plant is where new 'taters will grow. I will be trying to grow my potatoes in a circle of fensing this year to avoid the hoeing up of soil around the plant...which for me, is a back breaker. In doing the...

    Raised bed construction material

You know, I had never thought about not using an edging of some sort... Unfortunately, it wouldn't work for me. I've got to have something up to keep the chickens, and dogs out. I'd also be worried about erosion of my beds.

    Raised bed construction material

Hello everyone. We have 4 raised beds built out of composite decking so it will never rot and never have to be replaced. They are 12 ft long, 4 ft wide and 2 ft high I believe. We also put welded wire on the bottoms to keep them free from moles and the like. We never would have been able...

    Wagon,barrel,or cart?

I just got a wagon from TSC this year. Pulls like a regular wagon, but has a handle you pull out and the bed will lift and dump - like a dump truck. It also has some heavy duty wheels on it that make taking it in the garden MUCH MUCH easier. DH had gotten a ginormous wheel barrow and I've been...

anyone ever SUCCESSFULLY controlled star-nosed moles?

I tried the Juicy Fruit method a couple of years ago in my yard. It worked. I still have some, so it did not totally eradicate them, but there are noticably less of them. I don't think they were star-nosed though - I don't think we get them down this way. I can see the tunnels they dig...

    A question about seed balls

I read somewhere that a lady had a neighbor who had nothing but clay in his fenced backyard and didn't care to do anything about it. She took to throwing seed balls over the fense everyday as she walked her dog. I wish I could remember what she put in them, but said the back half of his yard...

    Egg shell question...

I've had that same thing on my tomatoes. My MIL got be some stuff at Lowes - don't remember the name - but it specifically stated it was for blossom end rot. I just sprayed the plant with it. It worked quite well.

    Composting...

We built a compost bin out of shipping pallets this past fall. 4 for the sides (one is of course the door) and a sheet of plywood on top. The plywood was cut in half and attached with a couple of old hinges we had in the shed so I could easily add to the top. We did secure the lid with a nail...
